St. Joseph’s Men’s Club - Parish & Community Scholarship
Value: $1,000
Purpose: To encourage, recognize and promote the youth of St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic
Church to actively participate and assume a responsible role in the Parish, the Ukrainian
community and the broader Canadian society and to assist them in furthering their education.
Criteria: Each candidate must meet all of the following criteria:
1. Is currently enrolled in or has a grade 12 diploma (no age restrictions)
2. Has a minimum grade 12 average of 70% (B) or GPA equivalent
3. Has been accepted and plans to attend an accredited post‐secondary institution anywhere in
the world on a full-time basis within 6 months of the scholarship application deadline date
4. Has been an active member of St. Joseph’s Parish for at least two years
5. Has demonstrated active participation and leadership in Parish life and the broader
community
6. Has provided an original and signed Letter of Recommendation
7. Has completed and submitted the application form
8. Has written and submitted a 500-word essay stating why he/she is a good candidate for
receiving this scholarship and why he/she is deserving of financial assistance .
Application: The scholarship application form must be completed in its entirety and supported
with all necessary documentation. This includes:

Although hard copies of the application form are available in St. Joseph's administrative
office, candidates are encouraged to submit their entire completed application form
electronically in one file to scholarship@sjucc.ca.

SECTION C: Participation within St. Joseph’s Parish and Community Involvement
1. St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church
Briefly outline your parish/church life participation, e.g. youth group, altar boy/girl, usher,
Sunday donation collector, theatre group, dance group, special event volunteer, summer camp
trip volunteer or participant, fundraising events volunteer (café, trivia nite, golf tournament,
bazaars, etc.), pysanky workshop, waiter, ticket collector, kitchen helper, caroling, etc. Include
length of time/frequency of your participation e.g. years, months, weeks as applicable.
2. Community Involvement
Briefly outline your participation in your community. This may include such things as school or
community extracurricular activities, e.g. sports teams/manager, computer club, drama,
theatre, band, cultural or literary activities, school newspaper, yearbook committee, class
representative, debating society, bus monitor, model parliament, coaching (tutor), special
responsibilities as designated by teachers, administrators, other responsible adults etc. Youth
groups such as CYM, PLAST, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, cadets, student clubs, choir groups,
theatre/drama group, dance groups, orchestra, band, summer/winter camp and parochial
classes. Include length of time/frequency of your participation e.g. years, months, weeks as
applicable.
SECTION D: Personal Hobbies & Interests
Outline your hobbies and interests that are independent of school. e.g. reading, stamp
collecting, model railroading, playing musical instrument, etc. You may include home
responsibilities such as care of pet, cooking, painting, etc.
SECTION E: Letter of Recommendation
Provide a signed Letter of Recommendation from a current or previous teacher, administrator,
supervisor, coach, mentor or event organizer. Letters of Recommendation from family
members, relatives, a member of the Scholarship Committee and the Pastor will not be
accepted.
SECTION F: Proof of Full Time Post Secondary School Enrollment
Provide proof of full-time enrollment in an accredited post-secondary institution that you plan
to attend within 6 months of the scholarship application deadline date.
SECTION G: Photo
Provide a recent passport-size “head and shoulders” photograph.
SECTION H: Essay
Candidate shall write an essay of no more than 500 words discussing:
1. What he/she has learned from participating in St. Joseph’s Parish activities and the broader
community-at-large and how this learning and experience may be of benefit in the future.
2. The most beneficial activities (to him/herself) that the candidate has participated in and how
these activities helped the candidate become a better person. The candidate is encouraged to
elaborate and explain how his/her participation has made him/her what he/she is now and how
they will shape the candidate’s future.
3. Goals, aspirations and future plans. This may include participation and creation of broader
ties within the broader community-at-large.
4. How will the financial assistance of this scholarship assist the candidate in furthering his/her
career goals and aspirations?
