Hughes Hall, St Edmund’s, Wolfson; and who will ensure regular
liaison with the other mature Colleges and reporting to the
Mature Strategy Group)

Responsibilities:
The Schools Liaison Officer/Mature Outreach Ambassador (SLO/MOA) is responsible
to the principal Undergraduate Admissions Tutor at Peterhouse (with a dotted line to
the Admissions Director, Lucy Cavendish College, on behalf of the mature Colleges)
and will provide administrative and personal support for the outreach activities of
the Colleges to the Undergraduate Admissions Tutors and to the Directors of Studies.
2.
Duties:
a)
access and outreach activities (standard age and general): the SLO will be responsible
for maintaining and expanding the Colleges’ work in this area, targeting initiatives to
raise aspiration among students in Year 11 and below [and among suitably qualified
parents and carers], and in liaison with the undergraduate Access representative (as
appropriate), and seeking to raise aspiration in Access Diploma students of all ages in
their link areas; additional activities will also include the organisation of residential
and conference events in targeted geographical areas, and the production of
literature targeted at encouraging students from under-represented backgrounds to
apply to Cambridge;
b)
access and outreach activities (mature): To work with Further Education colleges
nationally, supporting students and tutors through the admissions process, in
alignment with Cambridge Admissions Office; to facilitate extended learning
opportunities for FE sector students nationally (this will involve liaising with
Directors of Studies to identify appropriate study materials); to work with
Admissions Tutors to collate accurate and comprehensive data on the Colleges’
interaction with and admissions from FE colleges nationally; to work alongside
Admissions Tutors, Cambridge Admissions Office and Cambridge Communications
team to produce new communications material aimed specifically at mature students;
to support mature outreach through the dissemination of accurate information on
mature admissions and Cambridge interviews through sites such as The Student
Room; to liaise with Schools’ Liaison Officers who are part of the Area Links Scheme
at standard-age Cambridge Colleges, in order to brief them on mature student
applications, and extend the reach of outreach to prospective mature students; to
work alongside the outreach and recruitment teams at Cambridge Admissions Office,
for instance in attending Higher Education Fairs and Conferences in the UK to
represent the University as a whole. This may include representing the University at
RAF, Army and Navy Open Days;
c)
representing the Colleges at Open Days: it will be necessary for the person appointed
to assist with the Peterhouse Open Days (currently in April, early July and September
each year) in conjunction with other Admissions staff, and to support the mature
Colleges by participating as required in relevant University-led events, such as the
University Open Days, Mature Summer School and Applicant Support Day, and the FE
Tutors Conference;
d)
initiating and carrying out visits to schools and Further Education colleges:
responsibility will be shared with the Admissions Teams, in supplementation of visits
undertaken by/with the Admissions Tutors, other Fellows and members of the
student body;
e)
attending Higher Education Fairs and Conferences in the UK to represent the
Colleges;
f)
maintaining a database of school and Further Education college contacts: this will
include the use of detailed databases (CamSIS/Excel/Access), in particular through
the collecting of specific named subject teacher contacts at every school and Further
Education college;
g)
participate in the ongoing development of the Colleges’ strategy for outreach work, in
consultation with the Admissions Teams;
h)
Social Media: the SLO/MOA will participate in the maintenance and expansion of
social media promoting the outreach work of the Colleges; in particular to assist in
the development of interactive supercurricular resources for prospective applicants
in the sciences via social media (with particular emphasis on those taking online A
levels or engaging in self-study);
i)
establishing effective training for students from the mature Colleges or Peterhouse
who wish to be involved with schools and colleges liaison, particularly on issues
relating to Equal Opportunities and Child Protection;

EITHER knowledge of the secondary school sector; AND/OR knowledge of the FE
sector; AND/OR experience of the Cambridge College system;
a clean driving licence and the willingness to travel in the course of school and FE
college visits;
the appointee will be a graduate.
Terms & Conditions:
 this is a full time post (36.25 hours per week) but overall hours are negotiable;
 the time demands of the post are in any event highly seasonal;
 it will be necessary for the appointee to work flexible hours, in accordance with
those demands;
 time will be given off in lieu of extra hours worked;
 a full DBS check will be undertaken by the College for the appointed candidate.
 duties will be shared equally between the Mature Colleges (for which a desk will
be provided at Lucy Cavendish College) and Peterhouse
 expenses will be shared equally between the Mature Colleges (billed via Lucy
Cavendish College) and Peterhouse
The starting salary for the post will be in the range of £22,029 - £23,846 per annum.




Pension scheme available after probationary period.
25 days holiday per annum plus Bank and Public Holidays
A free car parking space is available whilst on duty, subject to capacity.
Free meals available when on duty (over six hours a day) at Peterhouse and
when the College Kitchens are open.
 Mileage and other expenses will be paid for travel when on duty.
