Honorable Representative of the State of Ohio,
I ask that you support HB170. I am a Laboratory Technician that is strongly opposed to the mandated influenza vaccine. The mandate of the flu vaccine goes against the Nuremberg Code and informed consent. The first point in the Nuremberg Code states, “The voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential.” This mandate strips me of my medical right to deny a medical procedure. I am not only an employee of a hospital, but I am also a patient. We do not mandate or require that our patients be vaccinated, nor should we ever. The mandate violates
Federal Law and disregards a person’s civil rights and freedoms, which are protected by the
Declaration of the Bill of Rights.
The flu vaccine does not prevent an individual from acquiring influenza, nor does it prevent transmission. The vaccine is based on predictions and not certainty. Flu vaccines target only the viruses that are predicted to be the most common types for the upcoming flu season. However, there are over 300 strains of flu virus. Safety should never come second, especially when it comes to an individual’s health. The safety of an individual’s health should be more of a priority than best guess.
The mantra that “vaccines are safe”, which includes the flu vaccine, is contrary to the 2011
Supreme Court ruling that vaccines are “unavoidably unsafe”. Vaccines have problematic ingredients, which can cause serious harm. Also, safety and effectiveness of flu vaccines, like
Flulaval, have not been established in pregnant women or nursing mothers. However, pregnant women are targets for receiving the flu vaccine, even though there has been no testing done on the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine for this population. The mandate forces pregnant or nursing mothers, who are in the workforce, to take unnecessary risk. Please support HB170 and its passage. Thank you for your time and consideration.
