Breaking Bad Week 8 Group Discussion Notes Breaking the Ice: What is your all time favorite song? Why? Scripture: Isaiah 55: 8-9 Discussion Questions: Have you ever watched Unsolved Mysteries? Or maybe a Dateline that features a case that’s just never been solved. Or maybe you’ve lost something and you just cannot remember where you put it. There’s something about our human nature that cannot rest when questions go unanswered. It keeps us up at night. When we can’t remember the name to a song or the name of that kid who sat next to us in the fourth grade … it drives us crazy! The Bible says that in this life there will be a lot that we won’t understand … questions we won’t have answers to. In Isaiah 55, the bible talks about God’s thoughts not being the same as our thoughts. That he sees differently than we do. And this means that sometimes he will ask us to do things or go places that are unknown. This weekend at Rock City we sang one of our favorite songs “Oceans” by Hillsong United. Read some of the words of this song aloud in your group: You call me out upon the waters The great unknown where feet may fail And there I find you in the mystery In oceans deep my faith will stand 1. What emotions do you have when you hear the words to this song? Read Matthew 14:22-36 Chad shared this weekend in the message that to step into the Mystery of God is to step into the will of God for your life. 2. What do you think the ones who stayed in the boat were thinking when Peter got up to get out of the boat? 3. What do you think Peter was feeling as he stepped out of the boat? 4. Have you ever felt that God was asking you to step out and do something that seemed completely irrational? 5. Can you share a time when you took a risk that you did not know the outcome to? There’s so much about this story in Matthew that is mysterious and miraculous. And as Chad pointed out this weekend, within that mystery we can easily see God using Matthew for his pleasure and to fulfill his purpose. And within the mystery of the Cross, we can see the purpose of Christ revealed. 6. If you are comfortable, please share; As you think about where you are at in your life, is there any mystery you feel God is calling you to step into? 7. What is holding you back from taking that step? 8. How can this group be praying for you as you take this step? God At Work: 9. Where do you see God at work in your life? 10. What can your LifeGroup join you in praying for this week?
