“Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its best hope for the future.” JFK
Statistics show that children learn important messages through rhyme, repetition and song.
We’ve created “eco-rhymes” by combining lessons about the environment with popular
children’s tunes. Queen Green, our depiction of Mother Earth, is in desperate need of saving.
And, in order to save Queen Green, education about environmental issues is crucial.
During the presentation, my mother and I reflect back on our creative journey over the last
five years as we explain the step-by-step process of writing our book. I this morning
We will discuss:


What familiar children’s tunes inspired our first drafts of eco-lyrics
How the songs first sounded, and how that compares to the final master audio tracks
Who added movement and dance to these new rhymes
Why working with family members has its ups and downs
What we wanted the story’s original concept drawings to look like
How those drawings developed into the book’s unique full hand-painted renderings
Where we searched to find a publisher for our story
Why we eventually chose to go out on our own and self-publish
What we learned from our many small and large successes AND failures
How our hard work and determination and passion for the environment kept us going
Where we began, where we are now and what our plans for the future are
Finally…when did all the above factors come together for our successful book launch
The two of us co-wrote the book; I sing the tunes, my mom choreographs the dances,
and together we strive to make a difference in children’s lives, which in turn,
will make a difference in our planet!
Book:
Save Queen Green!
Mother-daughter creative and writing team, Angela and Marisa
Vincent have announced the launch of their first book and
album, Save Queen Green! Mother Nature's Eco-Rhymes. Save
Queen Green is an educational children's book and album that
teaches children about environmental issues by infusing ecofriendly lyrics into familiar melodies. The authors have created a
very colorful book full of environmental lessons and relatable
characters that families will adore. The Las Vegas natives hope
to inspire families to make lifestyle changes that will help solve
the environmental challenges of our generation.
The Story Behind Save Queen Green:
In today’s world, with our resources
diminishing, our population growing, and our consumption patterns rising, it is imperative to instill
in our children the importance of protecting our planet. If we continue to live the way we do (with
no regard to the repercussions of our careless actions toward our planet) future generations will
suffer. We, as mother and daughter, have teamed up to tackle this problem head on - the only
way we know how; through song and dance, of course!
We have had so much fun reviving these old tunes that have since lost their meaning. “Mary Had
A Little Lamb” turns into “Tucker Had A Dirty Car” and instead of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat…” it’s
“See, see, see the trash floating down the stream…” We explain these complex issues in ways that
are fun, memorable, and easy to comprehend and remember.
Stemming from a children’s literature project while I was studying abroad in Germany in 2010, I
enlisted my mom (with her background in song writing) to help me craft these little ditties about
the environment. I discovered that the hardest part of writing the book, at least for me, was
beginning – and the next hardest part was tying it all up. The proverbial blood, sweat and tears
are not showcased in the final product, but they are certainly embedded into the outcome.
Fast forward five years later and we’ve managed (through many ups and downs) to create a book
and album entitled, Save Queen Green! Mother Nature’s Eco-Rhymes. Our love of the creative
writing process and our passion to get these environmental messages across allowed us to
persevere through the long and often tedious process and led us to a successful book launch in
October 2015!
