Almost 200 members of the Belconnen community turned up to witness Belconnen Tennis Club’s attempt on
the world speed serve record on Sunday 9 November. There was plenty of effort but servers were not able to
break the world records held by Sam Groth of 263 kmph or Venus William at 207 kms. Canberra tennis
professional Alun Jones took out the men’s challenge with a serve of 157 kph while Belconnen Tennis Club
junior Mia Ratkovic won the women’s speed serve with a best serve of 115kph. The speed serve competition
was sponsored by Peter Blackshaw Belconnen Real Estate and was part of a host of activities at the club
tennis day. Proceeds of the speed serve competition were donated to Pegasus Riding for the Disabled. (Tim
