52nd NWMC Exhibitor Scavenger Hunt! Joyce Frost/Mark Roop-Kharash, Scavenger Hunt game designers Scavenger Hunt rules (Prizes at Saturday Closing Keynote – must be present to win). Visit the exhibit booths and see if you can guess the word and number clues for each. For booths with more than one number, use the smallest number. If you are having trouble with the number clues, why don’t you see if there is a math teacher somewhere around that might be able to help you? There has to be at least one, right? Once you have the company name, write it in the blank next to the clues along with the booth number. Request the secret “word” from each exhibitor. The word clues create probability/statistics quotes! To be eligible for the drawing, complete at least one complete quote! Turn in your puzzle to the Puget Sound Council of Teachers of Mathematics Booth (next to Hospitality)! Drawings for fantastic prizes, donated by our amazing exhibitors, will be given out at the closing keynote on Saturday. You must be present to win. Good luck and may the FOURS be with you. DEFINITIONS PRIME NUMBER: a number whose only factors are one and itself. TRIANGULAR NUMBER: Each triangular number is the sum from one to N of all the numbers. (1+2+3+4+5+6+7 = 28 7th triangular number). SQUARE NUMBER: Each square number is just the sum from one to N of all the ODD numbers. Example 1+3+5+7+9+11+13+15=64. (Also, it is a number times itself - 8x8=64.) CUBIC NUMBER: The product resulting from multiplying a number by its square (4x4x4=64). FIBONACCI NUMBER: The first two are 1 and 1; succeeding #’s are the sum of the previous two terms. LUCAS NUMBER: The first two are 1 and 3, each succeeding number is the sum of the previous two terms. PQular NUMBER: is the product of two distinct prime numbers. (11x13 = 143 so 143 is a PQular number). # OF LETTERS: The number of letters when the number is spelled out, excluding blanks. (FOUR, FIVE, and NINE are three of four whole numbers with exactly 4 letters. Can you find the other?) ROYAL PRIME: (named for Royal Penewell): Prime # where each digit is a prime & a prime can be constructed from the digits using addition and/or subtraction. (53: prime, 5 & 3 - primes, 5–3 = 2, prime) FACTORIAL: Product of consecutive digits from one up to that number. (6! = 6 x 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 720) MODULAR ARITHMETIC: The remainder when divided by the mod number. (23 is 3 in mod 5, since 3 is the remainder when divided by 5).
