UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA AT OMAHA The Next Generation Leadership Scholarship Program, funded by the Mammel Foundation, is established to recognize the leadership potential and academic achievements of students already enrolled in a course of study at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The scholarship is designed for graduates of Omaha and Bellevue Public Schools who show promise as leaders in the continued development of the city of Omaha. Up to ten (10) Next Generation Leadership scholarships may be awarded to UNO students on an annual basis. Each scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,500.00 per academic year to recipients. Applicants must be students in one of the following University of Nebraska at Omaha colleges: Arts and Sciences; Communication, Fine Arts and Media; Education; or Public Affairs and Community Service. Applicants must be continuing full-time students of sophomore status or higher with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. Applicants must submit: a. A Completed Next Generation Leadership Scholarship application to the Dean of their college. b. An official UNO transcript. c. A current copy of the student’s Financial Aid Notification (FAN) d. A two page, typed (double spaced) personal statement of approximately 200300 words describing your career goals/aspirations and addressing how you will be able to make a difference in the city of Omaha through leadership and action. e. Two letters of recommendation: one from a member of the university community (faculty or staff) and the other from a community organization where you volunteer. Letters of recommendation must address: 1. relationship of the writer with the applicant 2. applicant’s leadership skills and academic potential 3. evidence of the applicant’s commitment to serving the Omaha community Scholarships are renewable based on the following criteria: 1. 2. 3. 4. Maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 Participating in an agreed upon number of hours of community service Participating in a specified cohort-based program each semester Submitting an annual progress report and participating in specially scheduled meetings and activities with scholarship organizers. Return a completed scholarship packet, no later than June 30 to the Dean of your college or the offices of Latino/Latin American Studies (OLLAS), Multicultural Affairs, or Financial Aid. The Next Generation Leadership Scholarship is open to all qualified applicants.
