Homework: Navigate and read through the VMFA Septimius Severus micro-site: http://www.vmfaresources.org/microsite/septimius-severus/ . Type a short essay and make an argument as to why it is or is not a dynamic site. Use the provided M.LiT Conservation Resource List to draw at least one comparison.

Lab: Insects and Objects- Create and use a dichotomous key from visual observations, classify insects based on external features, define binomial nomenclature, and identify characteristics common to all insects.

Homework: Create a graphic arts storyboard to illustrate your lab experience. Begin to fulfill your weekly tasks related to your assigned role.

Ancient Objects- From Egyptian Remains to Roman Sculptures & Conservation Laboratory II

Lab: Fibers and Textiles- Learn use of a microscope, make dry and wet mounts, compare and contrast different types of natural fibers using a burn test and microscopes.

Homework: Find an object in your home and type a detailed condition report and analysis. Prepare a condition report that includes a narrative description of the object, historical background, manufacture, condition assessment and preventive recommendations. Photodocumentation of the object including overall and detail images are to be included in the report. Students should create their own report format that includes all essential categories. Examples of reports will be shown in class and in the assigned reading.
