National Geographic Angry Birds Furious Forces: The Physics at Play in the World's Most Popular Game by Rhett Allain and Peter Vesterbacka (Jun 4 2013) NEWSLETTER- June 2014 continued- 2 The next focus on the science section of the Library included endangered animals. We learned that rhinos are at high risk of being endangered. One group in Africa tries to discourage the hunting of rhinos by sawing off their tusks, which is product sought by poachers. A world map puzzle helped to show where these animals live. Students were introduced and reminded of the Library’s Reference section, where facts may be researched quickly and easily. Students that attended the Library program were able to pick a random section of an encyclopedia volume. We read their selections about a variety of topics from Big Foot to Haiti. Recommendations for summer reading were given in the form of pictures of Canadian books. Early grades heard a story from the ever-popular Canadian, Robert Munch, while older grades listened to a few pages from Canadian author, Gordon Korman’s book, The Hypnotists. NEWSLETTER- June 2014 continued- 3 Students pinned some of the pictures of Canadian books to a map of Canada on the bulletin board. L. M. Montgomery’s, Anne of Green Gables was pinned on PEI and Diane Carmel Leger’s picture book was placed on BC., for example. Enjoy your summer reading!
