Application Requirements
(Failure to follow these requirements will result in a dismissal of your application)
1: Completed application form.
2: Recent unofficial transcripts: Unofficial transcripts are available online through the “central
link” portal – print out your academic history.
3: Portfolio: No more than 10 works of art. All work must be printed and placed in a three ring
binder for 8.5” x 11” paper, with a spine having a width less than 2”. If pieces are sculptural,
several views may be presented. Detail prints of large pieces may be included at the applicant’s
discretion as well. Detail prints and multiple sculptural prints of the same work are not counted
as part of the maximum of 10 works. Videos may be submitted on a DVD in a Quicktime or MP4
format. The student’s name must be on the DVD. Each work must be clearly identified as
follows: Title of work / Course that it was completed in (if applicable) / Date of completion /
Medium / Dimensions
4. Financial Aid Award Notification: For those applying for the Stephen Lawrence Barstow Art
Scholarship, the Robert W. Murphy Memorial Scholarship or the David R. Fisher Memorial
Award a Financial Aid Award Notification from the Financial Aid office is required. This form is
available online at www.financialaid.cmich.edu
5: Artist’s statement: For those applying for the Katherine Ardis Ux Art Scholarship, submit a
maximum one page statement describing your present work, stating your creative intent and
addressing how this Post-Baccalaureate experience will enhance your education. Applying for
the Katherine Ardis Ux Art Scholarship also requires a proof of acceptance into a PostBaccalaureate program.
6: SASE: A self addressed stamped envelope for the return of CD/DVDs if your application was
mailed.
7. Native American status: Please include Native American tribal documentation as defined by
the state of Michigan (if applicable).
Please note: All funding contingent upon future admittance and enrollment in study program. If the
initial award winner is unable to enroll in the proposed study program, the funds may be awarded to
another applicant.
Stephen L. Barstow Art Scholarship
Financial Need
Five $2,700 awards
Awarded based on financial need with an emphasis on promoting Native Americans into the Arts.
Eligibility:
1: Meet Office of Financial Aid requirements for financial aid. 2: Signed Art major (except incoming Freshman or Transfer students). 3: Minimum GPA in Art of 2.5 for freshmen, 3.0 for all other students.
4: Previous recipients may reapply.

Five $1,700 awards
A preference is given to Native Americans, although all ethnic groups may apply.
Eligibility:
1: Native American tribal identity as defined by the state of Michigan to verify Native American status (if
applicable).
2: Undergraduate standing at CMU. 3: Signed Art major (except incoming Freshman or Transfer students). 4: Minimum GPA in Art of 2.5 for freshmen, 3.0 for all other grade levels. 5: Previous recipients may reapply.

Katherine Ardis Ux Art Scholarship
Graduate Studies
Two $7,500 awards
To provide support to Senior Art and Design major, who intends to conduct research or further
study in the field of art or design in a Masters program, or other type of structured PostBaccalaureate program. Eligibility:
1: Senior standing at CMU.
2: Signed Art major.
3: Artist statement.
4: Written proof of acceptance into a graduate or post-baccalaureate program.

One $125 undergraduate award
Eligibility:
1: Meet Office of Financial Aid requirements for financial aid.
2: Signed Art major (except incoming Transfer students).
3: Minimum GPA in Art of 3.0.
4: Must be a full time student.
5: Interest in photography.
Completed applications and all supporting materials for all scholarships and awards are due in
the Department of Art and Design office, Wightman Hall 132, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48859 by 5:00
pm on Monday, April 8th, 2013. Scholarship and award recipients will be announced by Friday,
April 26th and all applicants will be notified of the results of the scholarship and awards
competitions. Work will be available for pick up on Monday, April 29th, and must be removed
from the Department of Art and Design office no later than Friday, May 3rd, 2013.
