Writing is Creativity
“Write it for your grandchildren!”(Lambert).
As a college freshman, I have taken a writing course at the University of California,
Merced. My instructor for writing one course is Bob Lambert. I’ve been taught by Bob that I
must write for my grandchildren, not for myself or for my instructor. The importance of writing
is to be able to communicate with others and be able to express myself. Through my writing
course, I have learned through the Brilliant Bob. My instructor has a well-thought lesson plan
that has shaped me into a better writer. Through my instructor, I have learned by doing group
projects, essays, journals, reading responses, colloquium and an internet project.
I have adequately learned through my peers by doing grammar presentations. I love how
my group and I plan a lesson for the class, and also think of a creative activity with the grammar
presentations. I will always remember that I had laughed before eight o’clock in the morning!
Memories have been created; I love my class and the funny moments we shared. In addition, I
love the dedication my instructor has for his class; the majority of the time, he entertains me and
the class. I can feel the love he has for writing, and he wants to show us to feel the same love.
Furthermore, I love the choices of YouTube video my instructor has shown us. The videos
always relates to what the lesson is for the class. My instructor has shown us the “She’s a witch”.
My instructor’s choice of YouTube video is most often relevant.
By attending to my writing course, I have now learned the importance of writing. At
times, I did not have much respect for writing because I was not good at it; it was skill I have not
mastered. I know I have a long road to become a better writer, but slowly I am improving. I
learned some tips from my instructor. For example, I know I am supposed to include out
information into my essay. I already knew that, but I had not applied it to my essays. In addition,
I also found out what are original resources; before, I had simply quoted the person. I did not
give credit to the appropriate resource, and if I do not give credit, it is plagiarism. This
information benefits me because if I commit plagiarism, then I may be kicked out of the
academe. If I am kicked out of college, then I have let myself down and those who care about
me. I have been taught to how to give credit, but it was not to an extreme. Public school did
mention this, and at times in high school, the student had received a zero if they plagiarized. In
addition, I also learned various ways to do quotations for an essay. In high school, I learned the
very basic of quotations. I did not know the multiple ways to introduce a quotation. In order to
introduce quotations, there are three rules I must abide. The first rule I learned about quotations
was to introduce the quotation, explain the quote, and then explain why it is important. If I
follow these three simple rules, then my essay will sound diligently and brilliant.
As a writer, I have improved magnificently. I have had small lesson to help improve my
writing. I have appreciated writing more, and truly understand the importance. As my instructor
once told me, “You’re not going to dance your way into that one million dollar job, or sing your
way in or mathematically receive that job.” I am thankful to be in Bob’s (my instructor) class; he
has helped me to write more with joyfulness. Before, I was put into a bad mood when I had to
write an essay because they were difficult for me. My instructor has created writing easier and
enjoyable. There is not one thing I would change in this class. I wish I could have taken a class
picture, to remember the times where writing is actually fun!
