Introduction:
Good afternoon class, today we are going to be going over the importance of recycling used oil. We
have a packed class, so I am going to get right into it.
Lesson Plan: Oil recycling
Subject: Power Mechanics
Rationale: Students will be able to:
1. Describe ways to reuse and recycle materials and products to reduce waste –
Production 10
2. Demonstrate the ability to use community resources to help solve problems
that come up during the design process – Self and Society 10
Objective: After this lesson the students will be able to:
1. Correctly identify methods of oil pollution
2. Explain why how to safely handle and properly dispose of used oil
3. Identify methods of preventing oil pollution
Lesson Strategy:



Class demo - at beginning of class
Short power point with lecture and video within
Class participation – Oil recycling poster




Poster boards
Felts/scissors/ruler/glue stick
White board – dry erase
Computer and projector

Name three ways oil can pollute a body of water?
(leaks/accidents/purposely)



Pollution: introduction of harmful substances into environment
Lubrication: process used to reduce wear on one or two surfaces
