BIODEGRADABLE BAGS – AVAILABLE AT TOWN OFFICE
Please ensure these are used for yard refuse only; grass clippings & leaves, etc. They are not meant for regular
household garbage. Beginning Tuesday, April 15th the town guys will pick up full biodegradable bags (placed in
the back lane) & every other Tuesday thereafter, for quick disposal at the Herbert landfill. This only applies to
the biodegradable bags supplied by our office. We will not pick up regular plastic bags as we cannot dump
them in our landfill. Other bags used will be the responsibility of the resident to take to the landfill & properly
emptied. As this is a test project, we will eventually have to start charging for the bags & will keep you updated
as to when that will happen. As we have a limited quantity available, we are imposing a 10 bag maximum limit
per visit to the office. Thank you to our conscientious residents willing to participate.

Library News
From March 1 to April 30th, we will be
running a Patronage registration drive.
Posters are on display in a number of
businesses. The goal is to increase the
number of people with library cards in
our region. A Library card is more
useful than a credit card. It gives you
access to: free movies, TV shows, CD’s,
MP3’s and DVD’s; instant access to
eBooks and audio books. You borrow a
book but you get to keep the ideas.
Each library will be competing to
increase the number of new patron
registrations at their branch. The
winning four branches will receive
$200.00 to spend on books/DVD’s/etc.
for their library. If you already have a
card, please encourage your friends to
join. The Herbert Branch Library has
been chosen to be a pilot branch for a
new collection of books. We will be
receiving a collection of popular new
releases that will be available to only
our library for a three month period.
They will be prominently displayed for
you to check out.

NEW GARBAGE
SCHEDULE
Garbage Pickup will begin
PROMPTLY at 7 a.m. on
Friday, April 4th.
Upcoming Council
Meetings:
April 14th & 28th
Meetings begin at 7:00 pm
in Council Chambers.
DROP BOX
For your convenience, a
drop box is located in the
front (stationary) door.
Please leave utility
payments, water meter
readings, etc.
Residential garbage pickup for houses facing avenues or having driveways
located on the avenue side will place bins on the avenue. If you have a driveway
facing the avenue, place the bins off of the driveway onto the street.
Businesses, mostly located on Herbert Avenue, will also place their bins in the
front on Herbert Avenue along the curb. With pickup beginning at 7 am,
hopefully collection will occur before businesses open allowing you to clear the
bins away before the business day begins.
To reiterate, only the garbage bin will be distributed on Tuesday, April 1st or
Wednesday, April 2nd. Pickup will begin on Friday, April 4th. Please have your
garbage bin on the street/avenue, before 7 a.m. (night before) or your garbage
may not be picked up. Garbage pickup will be every Friday until we receive the
recycling bins at which time pickup will alternate weeks; garbage one week,
recycling the next, but always on Friday for all town residents.
*Unless you have valid concerns, please do not call the town office because
your garbage was missed.
Please use proper garbage bags & observe these rules as follows:
1. GARBAGE MUST BE PLACED INSIDE THE BINS. If bags are left beside
the bins they will not be picked up. All pickup is done by a collection
truck and no one gets out of the truck to pick up extra garbage.
2. BINS MUST BE WHEELED TO THE FRONT CURB. If they are not at the
street they will not be picked up as the collection truck will not be able
to access them.
Clearly, things like furniture, windows, carpet, and other big items will not fit
into the bins. The town plans to have a big garbage container brought in once
or twice a year so that residents can get rid of these types of items. Keep in
mind that you can still take appliances to our local landfill for a $10 white fee.
Regarding billing, we stated in the Triways brochure insert that there will be
an initial bin charge of $10.00. To clarify, you are currently charged $5.00 for
waste collection, however, your upcoming April utility bill will reflect an increase
of another $5.00 making the total waste collection fee $10.00.
Weather permitting, the Herbert Landfill
will RE-OPEN on Monday, April 14th.
LANDFILL HOURS:
Every Monday, Friday & Saturday from 1 pm – 5 pm
We ACCEPT these items only – NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
Biodegradable bags (obtained through the town office) containing yard
refuse only; leaves, grass clippings & small branches or unbagged items as
listed above; trees, clean wood (unpainted & unstained),
gyproc & concrete, asphalt shingles & metal.
A $10.00 White Fee will be charged for large appliance disposal including
water heaters, stoves, fridges, dishwashers, dryers & washing machines,
etc., payable at the landfill.
Please remove doors & refrigerant from appliances prior to disposal.
