Each masterclass includes: A minimum of two taster lectures delivered by leading academic members of staff from the University. The opportunity to discuss and ask questions. Various subjects are on offer over various dates To book, visit http://www.study.cam.ac.uk/undergraduate/events/masterclasses.html MATHS EVENT AT CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY VIA PURE POTENTIAL For the third year running Pure Potential is teaming up with the University of Cambridge to run an event for mathematically talented students who are considering applying to a maths-related subject at Cambridge. The event will offer students the opportunity to experience top undergraduate teaching during mock-lectures, speak with current Cambridge students and hear about how to apply to one of the reputable maths faculties in the world. The event is taking place on Saturday, 9th February 2013 (11.00 - 15.30) at the Faculty of Law. The event is run by the University and they usually charge £10 per student to attend, but they have kindly allocated 100 places - free of charge to the most able and ambitious students. Eligibility In order to apply to this event, students must meet the following criteria: - In Year 12 studying at a state school or college - Achieved an A* grade in your Maths GCSE - Studying Maths at A-Level (or equivalent) and be on target to achieve an A - Be interested in maths, or a maths-related degree such as computer science, economics, engineering, physics, etc. Applications are now OPEN! OXFORD UNIQ SUMMER SCHOOL The Oxford University UNIQ summer schools are the only official summer schools for the University of Oxford. If you are selected to attend, you’ll spend a week (Sunday to Friday) learning a subject in depth, on an academic course arranged by Oxford tutors and lecturers. You’ll also get the opportunity to take part in a range of evening activities, designed to show off all the opportunities that the University and Oxford city can provide to its attending students. You’ll learn about the application process at the University of Oxford and meet alumni of the University and current students. Applicants will need to provide: GCSE (or equivalent) grades A personal statement detailing interest in their chosen course and motivation to attend UNIQ A-level (or equivalent) courses Teacher referee contact details And will need to meet the entry requirements – these differ for each subject course. Applications for the 2013 UNIQ summer schools are now open and close on Thursday 21 February at 17:00. Applications to be made at www.uniq.ox.ac.uk OXFORD PATHWAYS STUDY DAYS – 12TH, 13TH & 14TH MARCH These days provide students with an opportunity to visit Oxford and experience two academic seminars in a subject of their choice, with Oxford tutors. Applications are open to year 12 students who are predicted at least AAA at A Level. Applications are now open and close on Monday 28 January. Students can access the online application through the UNIQ website at www.uniq.ox.ac.uk/PathwaysStudyDays although this is a separate activity than the UNIQ summer school. ‘INTRODUCING OXFORD’ - UNDERGRADUATE COURSE TALKS In February half-term and over Easter there is a programme of Introducing Oxford talks for students interested in applying to Oxford. Booking is essential. Many colleges are offering taster tours on these days, at times to fit around the talks. Tutors from several departments will give admissions talks specific to their course, including a joint presentation by senior tutors from Biological Sciences, Biochemistry and Chemistry. The general talk Introducing Oxford will give an overview of the undergraduate courses, the college system and the application process. It should not be necessary to attend a course-specific talk andIntroducing Oxford. We advise you to attend one talk and to visit two colleges. If you enjoy solving interesting, yet challenging, problems then we invite you to enter our competition, open to those who intend to apply in 2013 or 2014 for entry to university. There is a top prize of £250 available in each category, with the possibility of smaller prizes for second place and entries which the judges deem Highly Commended. Prize winners will be invited to Corpus Christi for our Open Day on 27 June 2013 to receive their prizes. Sutton Trust US Programme Following a successful pilot scheme last year, the Sutton Trust is expanding its US programme to give students a taste of life at an American university. Students will participate in a week-long visit and will be based at either Yale or MIT plus travelling to other institutions for campus tours.
