Literary Terms: A quick Review
For each term, write the definition after the word. Include an example from literature. Be sure
to write down what work your example came from.
Sample:
As misericordiam: An appeal to the audience’s sympathy; an attempt to persuade another, using
a hard luck story rather than logic or reason. For example, if you slapped your little sister and
then told your parents you did it because you’re under a lot of stress at school, that would be
pleading ad misercordiam
Example: “Oh, Mom, everyone in my class is going to the party. Do you want me to be left
out?”
