Number in August was 560, now at 525. Is this attrition level normal? SPPS over enrolls as there is typically a 10% no show rate at SAP. Three grades overenrolled, 1st and 3rd grades now 4-5 students over the contractual limit. MCA Results Overall whole school 77.5% proficiency math, 75.3% proficiency reading, 74.4% proficiency in science. Growth score- SAP one of the schools with greatest growth – 5th grade reading (47% growth) and math (49% growth) scores. SAP focused on individual kids needs. 3 rd grade one classroom had 100% proficiency in math. Pleased with MCA test results. Communication at SAP Tina Schwie reported that there was good return for the SAPSA communication form-~400 returned. Directory has gone for printing. Lots of opt-ins and more e-mails provided perhaps due to where the e-mail was added on the form. Parent SurveyHilary Brasel and other SAP parents have put together a survey aimed at gaining a better understanding of the SAP community, what works well and where changes might be made. Hilary worked with Ann Johnson and an assistant superintendent at SPPS to put the survey together. The plan is to use Survey Monkey. Does Survey Monkey come with a cost? Thanks for the effort in putting together this survey. A few issues were raised as to the logistics of the survey If you have more than one child how to do address answers per child or do you fill out one survey per child. Perhaps ask a question regarding length of time at SAP. How many years have you had a child attend SAP/been a SAP parent? It’s a long survey, perhaps agglomerate some questions to make the survey shorter. How will SAP use this information? St. Anthony Park does not set curriculum. Won’t change curriculum based on the survey as curriculum is set by SPPS and questions regarding curriculum should be clarified to reflect this. Ann Johnson clarified that this is a parent sponsored survey—Ann Johnson gave input, assistant superintendent gave input. Final findings will be summarize and a report provided in aggregate. Andrea Kish suggested it might be best to send the survey out after conferences as for new SAP parents their first real exposure to many curricula will be conferences and it might be best to give them time to process the information before they are asked the survey questions. Concerns were raised specifically with the comments section of the survey and the privacy issues associated with processing the survey results. It was suggested that someone at SAP be the person to see the survey and remove all names or other specific identifiers to protect privacy etc. Ann Johnson agreed to do this and reported similar roles with earlier school surveys. Christine Melko suggested use of a Likert scale (1-5 or 1-4) for questions in the Student & Teacher Connections and Educational Goals section. This provides for less black and white answers and could provide more information even in the absence of comments. For question 3 on the first page—perhaps reword say “following offerings is/have been a priority for your family” as priorities change as children grow. For the welcoming questions—perhaps add a why/why not instead of the comments box. Add a question along the lines of volunteering (i.e. I am aware of the opportunity to volunteer to help in my child/children’s classroom and the SAP community). Data will be aggregated and summarized before being shared with community. Maybe provide a small statement regarding how results will be shared in the original survey.
