St Peter and St Paul Appledore  St Mary the Virgin Stone
13th December 2015
3rd Sunday of Advent
O Lord Jesus Christ,
who at your first coming sent your messenger
to prepare your way before you:
grant that the ministers and stewards of your mysteries
may likewise so prepare and make ready your way
by turning the hearts of the disobedient to the wisdom of the
just,
that at your second coming to judge the world
we may be found an acceptable people in your sight;
for you are alive and reign with the Father
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen
Readings: Philippians 4:4-7 Luke 3:7-18
Welcome to our services this morning.
Please join us after the service at Appledore at Chute House
at the kind invitation of Faye and Michael for refreshments
and a chance to chat and meet others. If you are new to the
area, or visiting for the first time, please do introduce
yourself to one of the ministers, to a Church Warden or
Sides person, or simply to someone sitting nearby.
In our prayers today, and throughout the week … we ask God to
care for all who are in need, for all who are unwell in hospital or at
home and those who look after them. If there is someone for whom
you’d especially like the church community to pray, you can write
your request in the Intercessions Books in Appledore or Stone
churches. (Ask one of the above named people to tell you where to
find it.)
The first Joint Family Service of the New Year will be
in Stone Church at 10.30am on Sunday 17th January,
when we shall be celebrating PLOUGH SUNDAY. Come
along and see what it’s all about!
Bishop Trevor’s Advent Appeal
Bishop Trevor has launched an urgent Advent Appeal to address the
untenable situation in the unofficial refugee camp known as The
Calais Jungle. While ‘The Jungle’ is blessed with spontaneous gifts of
goods and volunteers there is a serious lack of organisation and coordination which leads to chaos and waste. The plan is to raise funds
to provide 2 Aid Workers to undertake this task.
More details, including details of how to donate, can be seen on
posters at the back of the two churches.
