THEMES & REQUIREMENTS
Human Imaging
--Must involve human imaging at the Center
for Systems Imaging (CSI) at Wesley Woods
--CSI will provide one complimentary hour of
MRI or PET scan time (excluding
radiopharmaceuticals) for every hour of scan
time purchased with pilot grant funds up to a
maximum of 10 complimentary scan hours.
--Investigators must comply with CSI’s other
seed grant policies, namely that if an
investigator is awarded funding for future
scans based on their pilot, she/he must do the
scans at CSI. All policies are available here.
--Mock scanner also is available at CSI for
practice sessions with children ($40/hour).
Epilepsy/Clinical Neurophysiology
--PI must be faculty member at GA Tech
--Must relate to epilepsy or clinical
neurophysiology
--Translation of basic science into solutions
that address problems of immune-mediated
diseases and transplantation
--Technologies and innovation for disease
monitoring in chronic immune mediated
disorders
--Collaboration with GA Tech investigators is
encouraged.
--MAC will support research which is clinically
or translationally relevant to autism and
related disorders, including:
o treatment clinical trials;
o implementation science, including
cost-benefit analysis, value-based
proposition, or service utilization;
o genetic studies of autism or autismrelevant phenotypes; or
o understanding of mechanisms in
autism pathobiology.
--Proposals must factor in diagnostic
characterization costs if new patients are
involved in the study.
--Encouraging all cardiovascular research
ideas related to child health
--At least one of the faculty investigators must
be a primary or affiliate member of CCIV.
--Themes:

o
Translation of basic science into
solutions that address problems
affecting the health of children
o Technologies and innovation for
infectious disease research
o Clinical infectious disease research:
immunology and vaccines
--Child health focused clinical, translational or
basic science projects
--Special eligibility requirements:
o PI must have a current rank of
Assistant Professor at Emory and be
no more than 7 years into their faculty
appointment.
o PI must have NIH New Investigator
status, meaning she/he has not
previously competed successfully as
PD/PI for a substantial NIH
independent research award. Click
here for a detailed definition and
exclusions.
o If the PI’s primary faculty appointment
is not in the Emory DOP, the PI must
have medical staff privileges at
CHOA.
--Research proposals investigating topics
related to antimicrobial resistance are being
accepted with prioritization of topics related
to:
o Hospital acquired infections due to IV
lines/central lines (e.g. biofilm
formation and surface coating to
prevent spread of bacteria)
o Antibiotic prescribing in outpatient
populations (priority will be given to
projects that capitalize on the
Children’s Care Network)
--Available only to postdocs doing medical
genetics research
