This session will also include a range of rich teaching opportunities using texts that explore the Cross Curriculum Priorities. Professional Teaching Standards The following NSWIT Professional Teaching Standards are addressed: 2.1.2; 2.3.2; 6.2.2 MORNING TEA Close examination of specific outcomes This session will involve a close examination of specific outcomes from Stages 4 and 5 and how to unpack these outcomes for implementation in school programs. This will include examining the potential of Outcomes 1,2,3,4,8. Teachers will have an opportunity in small groups to consider teaching and learning strategies that can be used to deliver these outcomes and content. These texts have been chosen to enrich and excite students and teachers in the joys of reading and viewing. Her most recent position was as Head Teacher at Kiama High on the south coast of NSW. Jane is a popular presenter at regional HSC student days including Dubbo, Tamworth and Griffith. Currently Jane is the NSW English Teachers’ Association project officer for the HSC student days that are run throughout the year. Jane has been involved in the new English syllabus for the Australian Curriculum, first in the draft writing stages in 2010 with the Board of Studies and now as a presenter throughout NSW. With her colleague, Deb McPherson Jane has created a series of 18 online resources for Oxford University Press. These resources explore texts suitable for the Cross Curriculum Priorities. Jane is also an author of a number of English textbooks including the national award- winning Oxford HSC English. Jane is a part time tutor and marker for the universities of Wollongong and Charles Sturt. Jane has recently been part of the NSW Teachers’ Federation Centre for Professional Learning and has presented in Sydney and Newcastle in 2013. In 2009 Jane received the Australian College of Educators award for her contribution to education. Jane and Deb have been working on the new HSC Prescriptions and love sharing their ideas and insights with teachers in regional NSW. Deb McPherson taught English in NSW government secondary schools for twenty-eight years as a classroom teacher, Head Teacher and Deputy Principal. She worked as part of the committee selecting texts for the Higher School Certificate for over fifteen years. She was the Senior Curriculum Officer, English, at the Board of Studies from 20012002 when she worked on the development of the 2002 English Years 7-10 Syllabus. She was the Manager of English for the NSW Department of Education and Training from 20032006. She is the author of four anthologies of Australian nonfiction for Oxford University Press, Lives and Observations, Images and Reflections, Attitudes and Experiences and Passion and Persuasion. Deb co-authored Choices for English, a collection of recommended texts for the 7-12 English classroom, with Helen Sykes and Ernie Tucker. She coauthored Oxford HSC English, with Jane Sherlock and Karen Yager. With Jane Sherlock Deb has written the Oxford online Enriching Literature series. She has lectured and tutored at the University of Newcastle and at the University of Wollongong. Currently Deb and Jane are conducting a series of workshops on the new NSW Years 7-10 English syllabus for the Australian Curriculum and an introduction to the new HSC Prescribed Texts for 2015-2020.
