Activities

WHEN: first Friday of each month (9 total sessions)

WHAT: Cover 5 subject pathways
a. Food: Understand where our food comes from
and how to get locally
b. Waste & Consumption: Redefine what we
think of as “trash.” Clarify negative effects of
waste and offer alternatives.
c. Water: Understand scarcity of fresh water &
importance of conservation
d. Biodiversity: Larger understanding of the world
around us with various other animals
e. Climate Change: Understand basic premise of
greenhouse effect, why the earth is warming and
what we can do to help.
September 4: ESLI INTRO

CULMINATING EVENT: APRIL 2016, Get2Green
Showcase

GOAL: Meet students & have students start to think
differently about “trash”

LESSON: How to Make a Cereal Box Folder

PREP:
a. August 21: Ask teacher to ask students to start
collecting cereal boxes
b. August 28: All Cereal Boxes have been
collected & I have practiced making a cereal box
folder
October 2: FOOD



GOAL: Understand where our food comes from & how
to grow locally in anything
LESSON: Plant it in Anything
PREP:
a. Sept 18: SACC directors/ teacher asks kids to
bring in berry cartons & milk gallon
b. September 25: Have gathered enough
containers for activity & make sure all cartons
have wholes in them
November 6: WATER

GOAL: Students understand the scarcity of fresh water
& importance of conservation

LESSON: Decorate toothbrush holders

PREP:
a. Oct 23: Ask SACC directors/teachers to ask
students to start collecting jam/ tomato sauce
jars
b. Oct. 30: I will have gotten all jars from the school
and have all the other materials ready to go
(paper, markers,etc).
December 4: WASTE &
CONSUMPTION

GOAL: Students understand how much trash we use,
understand the negative effects and rethink what “trash”
means

LESSON: Weigh the Waste and Trash Art

PREP:
a. Nov 27: Send reminder to SACC directors that
this is happening
b. December 3: Talk to the SACC director over the
phone to make sure they know to tell students to
collect trash

INSIDE: Traveling Green- Charades (Transportation)

OUTSIDE: Predator, Predator, Prey (Biodiversity)
