Administration V. Suspension I. Overview A. Arkwest Communications believes that the youth of today are the foundation on which our future will be built, both socially and economically. In order to help provide a positive socio-economic environment, we must encourage our high school graduates to obtain the best college education available to them. In doing so, we must hope that these future graduates will return the rewards of such education to our communities. B. The Arkwest Communications scholarships are available for high school students who have evidenced a capable desire to acquire a college education and who have a financial need for such scholarships. The typical recipient will be an individual whose actions compliment his/her community and who is genuinely concerned about the welfare of the community. II. Scholarship Description A. Three (3) scholarships will be awarded annually to qualifying students entering the first year of college. The scholarships will be full tuition paid for two (2) semesters, excluding room-board, books and other costs. Such scholarships shall be offered only to students who plan to attend a four (4) year State-supported University within Arkansas. No scholarships are available for education received at private institutions, or educational facilities outside the state of Arkansas. B. Should a student maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher during their second semester, such students’ tuition will be paid for the following semester. (For the purpose of determining GPA, Arkwest Communications uses the students’ overall cumulative GPA.) C. The scholarship benefits will continue to roll over to the next semester provided the student maintains an cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. D. To be eligible for any portion of the scholarship the student must take at least twelve (12) hours of classes during any given semester, unless the student has less than twelve (12) hours to complete their degree program. E. The scholarship program terminates four (4) years after the students’ date of high school graduation. No benefits are paid after four (4) years have passed from the date students graduated high school. F. Ultimately, a student could have all eight (8) semesters of a four (4) year college program tuition paid. G. No form of summer school will be paid under this scholarship. III. Eligibility A. Students must graduate from a high school within Arkwest Communications' operating territory. Evidence is required. (After the scholarship recipient receives their high school diploma, they need to send a copy of their diploma to Arkwest Communications.) B. Students must have scored 20 or above on the ACT admissions test. Evidence is required. C. Students must not have received four (4) years full tuition scholarship from another entity. D. The total household income before taxes of the students parents or legal guardian must not exceed $100,000.00. Last year’s current federal income tax returns required. E. The student must attend a four (4) year State-supported University within the state of Arkansas. No scholarships are offered in connection with education received from private or out-of-state facilities. F. Application for scholarship must be received on or before April 15 of the calendar year. G. Arkwest Communications employees’ children are not eligible for this scholarship. H. When the scholarship recipient is ready to begin their new semester, it is the student’s responsibility to furnish Arkwest Communications a copy of their school transcript, proving their 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA, and a copy of their tuition statement, before Arkwest Communications will send payment to the University. IV. Administration A. Each recipient of the scholarships will receive a letter verifying their selection as a recipient of the scholarship. B. The recipient will be asked to submit the name of the institution in which they plan to attend, along with the address of the institution's office of admissions. Such notice must be received in a timely manner to ensure proper payment of semester tuition. C. Compensation for tuition will be paid when each semester’s tuition is due, after Arkwest Communications is in receipt of a copy of the student’s school transcript, proving the student has a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and a copy of the student’s tuition statement, Arkwest Communications will then proceed with payment. (It is the student’s responsibility to furnish their transcript and tuition statement in a timely manner to ensure payment.) D. One check will be made payable to the name of the University and the name of the recipient as co-payees for the total sum due for the semester tuition. The check will be mailed to the office of admissions or registrar, whichever is appropriate, of the University. V. Suspension A. In the event that the student fails to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 during the second semester or afterwards, the scholarship will be suspended for the next semester. (For the purpose of determining GPA, we use the student’s overall cumulative GPA.) B. Should the student raise their cumulative GPA to 3.0 or higher at any time before the four (4) years of the scholarship benefits terminate, the scholarship will be reinstated and tuition paid for the following semester, but not exceeding the last semester of the four (4) year scholarship period.
