2013 British Aerobic Gymnastic Championships.
Weston Aerobic Gymnastics took 40 gymnasts to the British aerobic
gymnastics championships last weekend in Reading.
In the international section of the event over 2 days Matt Saunders (age 16)
claimed the double title of Junior male individual and Junior mixed pair
champion again. Matt who trains and competes with Myffi Mountford from
Bulmershe gymnastics club, was also trailing the upcoming European
championships.
Junior trio, Maddy Reynolds, Emily Antoine and Beth Kemmish performed 2
great routines to get the bronze medal, it was great to see them back on
form again.
Ben Payne competing at the British Championships for the first time won
the bronze medal in the 12-14 male individual, with teammate Rhys
Williams winning the silver medal and going on to get the bronze medal
with Kiera Landen in the 12-14 mixed pairs.
The youngest competitors at the championships are just aged 9, and Weston
were delighted with all four of the clubs competitors at this age group.
Gemma Handley was up against a huge field of very talented gymnasts, and
the coaches were thrilled with her silver medal and a high score. Lewis
Harvey then went on then get another superb score and the gold medal in
the male individuals, and followed that by teaming up with Molly Brown and
Bella Styles to win the trios with a delightful routine.
National cup day was on the Saturday and Weston fielded a huge team who
all competed brilliantly, bringing home 30 medals, and numerous titles.
First up for the club was Xena Hewett in the age 10-11 section, who went
straight into gold medal place, a long nailbiting time later, and team mate
Ella Mae Paige took the gold medal and Xena had to be content with silver.
An excellent result as this was both these girls first time at this level.
George Richardson then bought the club home another gold medal with a
strong routine to win the male individual.
The category wasn’t over yet as the trio of Ella Hutchinson, Lauren Porter
and Holly Avery also held off first time nerves at this level to win yet another
gold medal.
The next age group was 12-14 and Katy competed an effervescent routine to
get equal bronze medal in the individuals, sadly in the event of a tie at this
level a countback occurs and Katy had to settle for 4th place. But a great
result, amongst a large field of talented gymnasts.
In the pairs event Millie Meese and Tors Kemmish got the silver, with
teammates Mia Griffiths and Marie Veasey in bronze.
Tors and Millie then competed a superb routine in a new trio with charlotte
Painter and swept to gold.
Charlotte joined Katy Tossell. Lara Hunt, Cally Bullock, Lucy Clarke and Issy
Worrall to win gold in the five team section.
The day of golds continued as the Junior section got underway. The trio of
Dani Lintern, Kat Forster and Jade Hunt competed as a trio for the last time,
they made sure they would finish on a high and won gold, beating
teammates Amy Bond, Courtney Hewett and Lucy Clarke, who had to settle
for the silver medal.
The final event of this age group was the five team, and a dynamic routine
was competed by Jade Hunt, Lucy Williams, Courtney Hewett, Dani Lintern
and Kat Forster for yet another gold.
Finally we came to the senior event and Jade Hayes competed with her best
performance so far to get a well deserved bronze medal.
An excellent result for the summer of hard work from all the gymnasts and
coaches alike.
The icing on the cake was the announcement that Matt Saunders has been
selected to represent Great Britain at the upcoming European
Championships in November, for both Male individual and mixed pairs. Matt
will travel with the British squad. The clubs head coach, Debbie Saunders
will be travelling with delegation as a team coach. Matt is an experienced
international gymnast, who will now be training hard, hoping for success.
