A Hurricane is a Spiriling wind storm
that has hot and cold winds in it and
is a Natural Disaster that has
devastating effects on human
society.
What is a Hurricane and how do they occur:
A Hurricane occurs when the warm air rises, causing an area of
low air pressure below. Other surrounding air becomes warm and
moist and continues to rise, surrounding the other air that’s
starting to swirl taking its place. As the warm air rises it cools
down turning into clouds causing a Hurricane. In the middle if the
Hurricane there is the eye of the Hurricane which is the calm part
and all around the eye is the Spiriling wind which is warm ocean
water and bands of storm clouds.
Where Hurricane Occurs:
Hurricanes occur near the
equator above ocean waters. They
normally form over the Atlantic
Ocean or the Eastern Pacific
ocean.
A Famous Hurricane:
One of the most famous Hurricanes is Hurricane Sandy. This
Hurricane was one of the most deadly and most destructive
Hurricanes in history. It hit Greater Antilles, Eastern United
States, Bermuda, Bahamas and Eastern Canada. It started in
October 22nd 2012 and ended 31st of October. 285 people in total
were killed in Hurricane Sandy and many more injured. The
Hurricane caused 62 billion dollars of damage in the United States
and 1.5 million people lost money from it.
Warning signs when a Hurricane occurs:
When a Hurricane occurs weather satellites enable forecasters
to give a few days advance warning. To alert people of Hurricanes,
types of flags are waved to warn people. More often people have
radios and television to warn them. In the past warnings were
delivered using a megaphone to shout out a Hurricane warning.
What are the effects from a Hurricane:
Storm surge and tidal flooding
is the most devastating and
notable effect from a
Hurricane. When this happens
they are responsible for 90
percent of related deaths.
When a Hurricane occurs lots
of buildings get damage and
over 65 billion dollars repair
all that damage that has
effected the humans badly. Pipes
are ruined badly, damaging
water and people drink the
filthy water and get diseases.
How to stay safe when a hurricane occurs:
When a Hurricane occurs you always stay indoors and in the
strongest part of your house because you will have more of a
chance of living. In the situation, it is best not to use electronics or
you will get electrocuted. Always have a survival bag in case you
need food, water, change of clothes and first aid kit. If a Hurricane
is happening and you’re outside it is best to stay away from poles
and trees and keep flat on the ground at all times.
