Monday, 11/9: Cite the textual evidence that most strongly supports an analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text (RL.8.1). Analyze how a text makes connections among and distinctions between individuals, ideas, or events (e.g. through comparisons, analogies, or categories) (RI.8.3). Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence (W.8.1).

Materials: Literature book, thesis statements, writing packet, rubric

Record weekly obligations

Introduce topic sentences: a.

Topic sentences must contain the topic and the argument you want to prove, the controlling idea. b.

This is where you are breaking your thesis into its separate arguments and proving your point

discuss how to break the thesis into parts

make sure students understand how to arrange these parts c.

You want to make sure that the topic sentence grabs the readers’ attention and gives them a taste of what is to come in that paragraph. d.

A good topic sentence will also allow you to stay focused in your objective for that paragraph

Assignment: a.

Stage 2 (revised thesis and topic sentences) due tomorrow.

This must be typed and double spaced using MLA format to receive full credit. Reference the “Writing Stages” guide in your folder for specific details.
