WIKA Instrument Corporation Continuous Improvement & Quality Director
Featured on “The Lean Nation” Radio Program
news release
Lawrenceville, GA – Rick Reed, Director of Continuous Improvement & Quality for WIKA
Instrument Corporation (WIKA), was recently featured on the radio program “The Lean Nation,”
hosted by Karl Wadensten, President of VIBCO Vibrators (www.vibco.com). The program
originally aired on March 1, 2011.
While on the program, Reed discussed his previous experiences in Lean manufacturing, how
WIKA has embraced the Lean journey over the last 10 years, and how WIKA continues to gain
support from employees for improving and expanding processes.
As an industry leader in Lean manufacturing, WIKA has recently taken the next steps in its 10year lean journey by reaching its 300th Kaizen event and introducing Six Sigma and Green Belt
training to its workforce. Kaizen’s are practices that focus on the continuous improvement of
processes in manufacturing, engineering, business processes and management. Six Sigma is the
process of identifying and removing defects and errors. Green Belt certified employees are the
experts in Six Sigma methods.
WIKA’s manufacturing facility in the Atlanta suburb of Lawrenceville was one of the state-of-theart plants in the Atlanta area selected to be included in the IndustryWeek Best Plants Conference,
which shows attendees continuous improvement and best practices in action. The IndustryWeek
Best Plants Conference, in Atlanta this year, has been the premier advocate for continuous
improvement and operational excellence since 1993. Plant tours are an essential part of its
annual conference that promises real-world strategies for improving a manufacturing operation.
