MSc Medical Mycology Scholarship – September 2015
We are delighted to announce that the University of Manchester MSc Medical
Mycology programme is offering a scholarship in partnership with Astellas Pharma
Europe Ltd.
This scholarship is aimed at high achieving graduates within the medical
and healthcare sciences seeking to develop fungal infection diagnostic services and
patient care in their home countries or globally. The scholarship is highly
competitive and requires a strong local commitment and support.
The value of the scholarship is £18,990 and it can be used to cover the tuition fees,
travel as well as accommodation and other living costs:

For home/EU students the scholarship covers the tuition fee (£9,000) and
provides a monthly allowance (£830/month).

Alternatively the scholarship can be used to cover part of the international
tuition fee but the applicant must be able to find additional funding (estimate:
£15,000) and provide evidence of this to cover the full fee (£20,500), living
costs and travel.
For the avoidance of doubt, the purpose of the scholarship is to provide funding for
one individual so they can graduate with an MSc in Medical Mycology, which in turn
will provide them with the knowledge and practical skills to pursue a specialist
career in diagnostic, clinical or academic settings. These skills will assist the
therapeutic area by enhancing access to rapid diagnostics of fungal diseases
enabling more targeted use of antifungals and other resources as well as improved
patient outcomes from fungal infections.
We invite you to submit an application for the scholarship. Please find attached a
copy of the application form and further details. Scanned signed applications and
support letters must be emailed to the email address provided on the application
form by the deadline.
The application deadline is Tuesday 30th June 2015, 4pm GMT.
Please note that only full applications will be considered.
Please note before applying you MUST ensure you fulfill our entry criteria and can
provide all required documentation including International English Language Testing
System (IELTS) results.
To apply you need to provide a plan (see attached application form) how you intend
to use the scholarship to improve the diagnostics and care of patients with fungal
infections either in your home country or globally. It is advised that you discuss the
plan with people who are in the position to commit to the development of
mycological services locally. A support letter from the Head of your Hospital or
Clinical Laboratory (or other centre where you plan to relocate) summarising how
your new skills will be put in use is highly recommended. Also, provide enough
detail regarding what diagnostics and care are presently available and what do you
think should and could be improved. Be precise and realistic.
Best regards,
Dr. Riina Richardson, DDS, PhD, FRCPath
