Programme Associate (fixed-term contract, 9 months) Terms of Reference Girls Not Brides is seeking a short-term Programme Associate to support the secretariat while the Global Coordinator is on maternity leave. In particular, the Programme Associate will act as a right hand to the Programme Officer, while supporting the interim Global Coordinator on specific issues. The Programme Associate will help to implement various elements of the Girls Not Brides strategy; provide insight into how the secretariat can best contribute to achieving some of the key objectives of Girls Not Brides; liaise, as appropriate, with Girls Not Brides members and national partnerships and support their work; and contribute to the broader strategic, programmatic and communications work of Girls Not Brides. Main responsibilities and tasks will include: Conduct research and policy analysis on developments related to child marriage Conduct desk research and synthesis of thematic issues and prepare briefing documents, issue briefs and other materials to support the partnership’s work. Prepare briefings for the secretariat on specific issues in advance of upcoming events, meetings and interviews. Support the Programme Officer on Girls Not Brides activities related to increasing the evidence base on child marriage. Implement Girls Not Brides’ strategy on supporting and highlighting national-level efforts to end child marriage Monitor and highlight policy developments in key high-prevalence countries. Identify opportunities to raise visibility, policy attention and resources on child marriage at a national level. Support the Programme Officer in identifying key factors necessary for successful nationwide programmes. Liaise with members and national partnerships, as appropriate, and in collaboration with other team members. Support Girls Not Brides efforts to increase the funding base on child marriage Conduct research and analysis on existing and potential funding streams and donor interest inn child marriage and related issues (e.g. education, health, child protection). Support secretariat efforts to identify specific funding opportunities for Girls Not Brides members. Monitor and report on opportunities for Girls Not Brides to make the case to potential funders for investing in efforts to end child marriage, and prepare briefings and other related materials. Contribute to the broader strategic, programmatic and communications work of Girls Not Brides We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and skills: Graduate qualification in a relevant area (such as public policy, development studies, international relations, human rights or gender issues) or proven experience in a related field; Relevant professional experience, preferably engaging with non-governmental or civil society organizations, particularly in low- or middle-income countries; Strong policy analysis skills and understanding of policy dynamics on gender and/or development issues; an understanding of child marriage and of the key players in the women’s and children’s rights fields is desirable; Excellent research skills and ability to interpret and synthesise data and evidence from different sources; Excellent written communication skills and ability to write for different audiences; An excellent eye for accuracy and attention to detail; Ability to work pro-actively with minimal supervision, meet tight deadlines and juggle multiple priorities; Knowledge of how large donors function, including bilateral, multilateral and private foundations; Ability to follow instructions, resolve problems and adapt plans if required; Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to interact with people from different backgrounds and cultures; Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality; Excellent written and spoken English; proficiency in another relevant language, such as French, is highly desirable; and, Proficiency in the latest versions of MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint and use of databases.
