LEARNING GOALS Reading: (Expository Text/ Non-Fiction): My students will complete their Keynote Presentations on their iPads. They will demonstrate the knowledge learned in class while becoming a content expert in either: weathering, erosion earthquakes, volcanoes, or landslides. They will share their Keynote Presentations with their classmates. (Fiction): We are reading the novel, By the Great Horn Spoon, by Sid Fleischman. The children are also writing in their own “Jack’s Journal” as we read. This novel is filled with fantastic figurative language. Ask your fourth grader to summarize the first few chapters for you. DiRT: We will begin a new DiRT rotation after Spring Break. Language Works Program: We will begin working on Volume 11 this week. Our students will identify the spelling patterns of words with the /uh/sound as well as words that begin with silent letters g, k, or w. We will continue to work with using the correct punctuation when including dialogue in writing. Students will need to distinguish between the different types of figurative language learned in class. Finally, we will focus on words with the Latin roots aqua- (water) and port- (carry). A Language Works Volume 11 Test will be given at the end of next week. Math: Unit 7: Advanced Fractions. We will continue to use multiplication and division to rename mixed numbers as improper fractions and improper fractions as mixed numbers. We will add and subtract mixed numbers with fractions and also work on multiplying whole numbers by a fraction. Our students are working on a fraction/decimal project that we will share with you at Open House. First in Math: Please encourage your child to use their First in Math license at least 3 times per week. First in Math is a great online program that provides our students valuable practice with fact fluency, critical thinking, and problem solving. Writing: We will be writing creative “food” idiom stories. PE: We have P.E. this year with Coach Chindlund on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please remind your child to wear athletic shoes/clothes on these days. Library: We will be visiting the library this Thursday. Please remind your child to return/renew their library books this week.
