Aims of the workshop:






To provide advanced training to PhD students and early career researchers regarding the
diversity of ways of conducting case research in Business and Management Disciplines;
To identify and discuss how ontological and epistemological assumptions affect views
about quality criteria and research design of qualitative case study research;
To develop skills on how to conduct research in cross-cultural and multi-lingual case study
settings;
To develop research and writing skills for case study researchers aiming at top tier business
and management academic journals;
To provide training on how to deal with reviewer comments in top tier business and
management academic journals;
To establish a network of qualitative case study researchers that will share best case study
practices.
About the presenter and organisers:
Rebecca Piekkari is Professor of International Business at Aalto University School of Business, Finland. She
is an expert in qualitative research methods in International Business and has co-edited (with Catherine
Welch) two volumes, namely Rethinking the Case Study in International Business and Management
Research and Handbook of Qualitative Research Methods for International Business. Her other research
interests focus on language issues in international business, organizational architecture and design, control
and coordination mechanisms in multinational corporations. She has published in various academic
journals including the Academy of Management Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of International
Business Studies, Journal of Management Studies, Industrial Marketing Management, International
Business Review, International Journal of Management Reviews and Organizational Research Methods.
Emmanuella Plakoyiannaki is Associate Professor of International Business and Deputy Director of the
Graduate School at Leeds University Business School, UK. Her main research interests focus on philosophy
of science, qualitative research in international business/marketing, linguistics and equivalence in crosslanguage contexts. She is also interested in exploring the interface of art and business phenomena. She has
published in various academic journals including the Academy of Management Review, Journal of Business
Ethics, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of World Business,
Industrial Marketing Management, International Business Review and International Journal of Management
Reviews.
Constantinos Leonidou is Associate Professor of Marketing at Leeds University Business School, UK and the
Director of Research for the Marketing Division. His main research interests focus on sustainability,
business ethics, international marketing, and advertising. He has published in various academic journals
including the European Journal of Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, International Marketing
Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing
Science, Journal of International Marketing, Journal of World Business, and Tourism Management. He
regularly presents his work in leading international academic conferences, while he is an active member of
the American Marketing Association (AMA) and European Marketing Academy (EMAC).

Costs
NARTI will cover the full cost of the two-day event including lunch and refreshments during the
workshops. You will be expected to cover the cost of your travel and accommodation.
Pre-work:
Please, read the following article which will be discussed during the workshop:
1) Symon, G. and Pritchard, K. (2015). Performing the responsive and committed employee through
the sociomaterial mangle of connection. Organization Studies, 36(2), 241-263.
2) If you have reviewer reports and/or editorial letters from journals or conferences with
methodological comments on one of your case study-based manuscripts, please bring them along.
