The Virginia Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR), Division of Dam

Safety & Floodplain Management (DSFM) is seeking a self-starting team player to perform Simplified Dam Break Inundation Zone Mapping for Low Hazard Dams and related duties. This position is responsible for performing Dam Break

Inundation Studies for Low Hazard Dams utilizing FEMA’s GeoDam-BREACH program and the Army Corps of Engineers HEC-HMS or HEC-1 program. These studies shall be performed utilizing procedures set forth in 4VAC50-20-54 of the

Impounding Structure Regulations. This section of the Regulations sets out the procedure to be used to perform a Simplified Dam Break Inundation Zone study for Low Hazard Dams. This position reports directly to the Division Director of

Dam Safety and Floodplain Management or delegate.

Potential candidates must be highly motivated and able to perform work with minimal supervision. This position requires the candidate to work as a team with a GIS Specialist counterpart to create the inundation mapping and verify the Low

Hazard Classification of modeled dams. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work well as a team member and to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Applicants must have a BS in Civil Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited university and a demonstrated knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology, and development of dam breach parameters. Experience working with HEC-1/HEC-

HMS, ArcGIS (including the Editing toolbar and ArcHydro/Spatial Analyst/3D

Analyst), and the Microsoft office suite is required. Experience with FLO-2D is a plus.

Candidates must have a valid Virginia’s driver’s license by the start of employment and a safe driving record. The selected candidate will be working out of the Richmond Central Office. A flexible work schedule may be available.

This fulltime salaried position is funding contingent and is expected to last a minimum of one year. Continued employment beyond one year is a possibility based on job performance and additional funding. State university benefits and holidays are provided.

Hiring Range: $41,000-$60,000
