Purpose of job:
 To ensure effective management of professional development for teachers in Ile de France
 To ensure effective support for recruitment, induction and performance management of
teaching staff in Ile de France
 To ensure effective management and administration of public-access teacher training
courses in Ile de France
Context and environment:
British Council teaching activity in Ile de France is undergoing a period of rapid expansion. The
centre currently accommodates around 4,000 young learners (YLs) in academic year classes and
a further 3,000 during holiday classes. Around 1,300 adults also follow courses with us at any one
time.
Delivery is across multiple locations in Ile de France, with around 40% of classes taking place in
locations other than our main premises at Invalides. These are satellite locations where we are
introducing new programmes and which will continue to represent the platform for future growth,
particularly in the YL programme but also in public access adult programmes.
The centre currently employs about 100 teachers – 30% full-time and 70% part-time.
There is a nascent public-access teacher training offer, with both CELTA and CELTYL
qualification courses being offered and expected to grow in the future.
ST Teacher training and development will be a member of a teaching management team of 11,
including 6 other STs, 3 Activity Heads (ATCMs) and Head of English Teaching.
The role holder will ensure that effective training and development systems are in place to
support teaching quality, support effective recruitment and induction and also manage the
delivery of our public-access teacher training offer.
Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:
Professional development and training of teachers in Ile de France:
 To carry out periodical training audits to establish training and development needs of
teaching staff
 To author an annual training and development plan for teaching and other academic staff
 To manage and administer the delivery of in-service training (INSET) and other training
opportunities

To contribute to the wider annual staff training plan (Plan de Formation)
To support line managers in identifying and agreeing appropriate learning and
development aims for teaching staff
To support the candidature and selection of teaching staff for training and development
opportunities
To ensure that teachers are well-informed about training opportunities, including funding
opportunities
To monitor attendance and completion of mandatory training by teaching staff and update
records accordingly
To assume the role of DELTA tutor as required and agreed
Recruitment and induction
 To support recruitment of teachers by participating in shortlisting and interviewing
activities
 To ensure that all documentation and certification required from new recruits is obtained
and filed as per corporate and French legal standards. This includes child protection (CP)
checks, references and copies of professional certification
 To ensure that induction is carried out to agreed standards and that induction checklists
are completed and filed to agreed deadlines.
Public-access teacher training management and delivery
 To coordinate public-access teacher training activity and plans
 To assure all administration and logistical planning of public-access teacher-training
courses
 To lead on the selection of candidates
Teaching:
 To prepare, administer and deliver up to 400 hours of teaching and/or training per year
(including substitution) to applicable corporate and locally defined standards
Line management:
 To line manage up to 6 (full-time equivalent) teachers to applicable corporate and French
legal standards
TC Management team duties:
 To act as duty officer where/as required by the duty officer schedule
 To deal with customer queries and issues as required
 To actively support the achievement of customer service excellence standards
 To ensure that child protection standards are maintained at all times and that child
protection issues are dealt with promptly and escalated to the Child Protection Officer
 To support the achievement of applicable corporate and French legal Health and Safety
Standards
 To ensure that resources, stocks and materials are well organised and managed
