Year 12 Information Processes & Technology Project Management Major Assessment (25% of HSC Assessment) St. Ignatius’ College, Riverview Individual Information System Project Project: Russell Schofield is considering opening a DVD superstore in the local area. The store plans to attract about 400 people each week. Each month the store will purchase $18,000 worth of DVDs and visual accessories. It is then sold at a profit of 35%. The wages of all 22 staff members is $22,000 per week, and he also needs to repay a loan of $5500 per month. Mr Schofield needs to analyse this data to determine the best promotional scheme to run. Mr Schofield wants to create, and determine the cost of promotional material for the superstore. Develop a solution for Mr Schofield and submit the details to him at Russell.schofield@gmail.com. It should provide information about whether to buy the store and the possible effects, promotional sales will have on profits. Create promotional material for Mr Schofield’s superstore. You will create a working version of a relational database, with accompanying documentation following the Systems Development Life Cycle. 1. Understanding the problem In this section, you are determining the exact nature of the problem, and the need. 1.1 Describe what the problem is, who the participants are, the data collected and an overview of requirements of the solution. Minimum one (1) A4 page. 1.2 Requirement report outlining the aims and objectives of the new system, and how it will benefit the organisation. Minimum one (1) A4 page. 2. Planning In this section, you will utilise the data collected, and develop solutions that meets the need. 2.1 Choose a superstore name. 2.2 Suggest at least two (2) possible solutions to the problem. Include for each: 2.2.1 Constraints (factors that affects the system and prevents it from achieving the desired objectives) on the system. These could be financial, technical, environmental or personal. 2.2.2 Advantages and disadvantages of each solution. 2.3 Project plan outlining the overall schedule, subprojects (also with schedules), people involved, information technology and data/information required by the system. 3. Designing solutions This is the transformation stage of the specifications you have supplied above into appropriate hardware, software and information processes. It will involve purchasing hardware, writing or purchasing software, and specifying information processes to make the system operational. In this section you must include: 3.1 A spreadsheet file that includes the following: 3.1.1 Cost of the total stock in the store (including the sale price) 3.1.2 Payroll for all of the employees 3.1.3 Monthly loan repayment schedule for one year at an interest rate of 7.05%p.a 3.1.4 Cost analysis of a potential promotional sale 3.2 A database file that includes the following: 3.2.1 A form for stock that includes 80 fictitious records (StockID, Item Name, Product Description, Cost Price, Supplier, Quantity and Universal Product Code) 3.2.2 A form for employee information (StaffID, Name, Address, Post Code, Contact Number, Date of Birth, Position, Hiring Date) 3.2.3 A form for supplier’s information (SupplierID, Name, Address, Post Code, Contact Number, Minimum Delivery Quantity, Product Supplied) 3.2.4 Relevant Queries. Do not include a listing of the entire table. 3.2.5 Two reports based on your queries 3.3 Word processed files that include: 3.3.1 A mail-merged invitation to attend your new store opening to your 5 most important clients 3.3.2 Using your prepared database, create a mail merge in Microsoft Word that inserts the fields “Name, Address, Suburb and Post Code” into an envelope mailing list. 3.4 Two (2) context diagrams on various aspects of the system (Ordering products, Making a Sale) 3.5 One (1) Data Flow Diagram (DFD) on the Ordering products system. 3.6 One (1) data dictionary based on the database. 3.7 A system flowchart to represent the entire mobile phone superstore system. Nicholas Biddle S00071047 – EDST442 Assessment Task 2 Part A Page 2 4. Implementing This section involves the delivery of the new information system to the participant. 4.1 An implementation plan (one A4 page minimum) detailing the following aspects: 4.1.1 Method of participant training and an explanation of why it was chosen. 4.1.2 The conversion method (with a diagram) and an explanation of why it was chosen. 4.1.3 System testing (Hardware, software and information processes) 4.2 Create an A4 flyer for the superstore to promote itself using Microsoft Publisher. 5. Testing, evaluating and maintaining In this stage, the performance of the system is tested and then evaluated. You must include: 5.1 Methods of testing conducted and reason why it was chosen. 5.2 An evaluation of the new system with comparisons to the initial aims and objectives outlined in the requirement report. 5.3 Methods of maintenance for the system. 6. Social and ethical issues In this section you will detail the different effects the information system will have on the users and participants. 6.1 Two (2) A4 pages that includes information about 6.1.1 The type of system 6.1.2 Work environment 6.1.3 Social Issues 6.1.4 Ethical Issues 7. Logbook / Journal In this section, you will document your workload for the week, and regularly converse with your client. This ensures the project is on schedule. 7.1 Using either Wordpress or LiveJournal, you are to contribute to a logbook; and send regular email updates to the client on a weekly basis. In each entry, you must discuss: 7.1.1 What is currently being worked on 7.1.2 When you worked on it 7.1.3 The time taken to complete each task discussed 7.1.4 How each task was done 7.1.5 Any problems encountered 7.1.6 Any websites used (provide links) 8. Electronic files This ensures the data and documents you are creating are completed in the appropriate form. 8.1 All spreadsheet, database, publisher and word files, as well as a link to your latest logbook/journal entry are to be sent to your client at provided email address Russell.schofield@gmail.com. Any passwords required to access data must also be sent in the email. Nicholas Biddle S00071047 – EDST442 Assessment Task 2 Part A Page 3 Year 12 Individual Information System Marking Guidelines 1.
