CIL advocates will implement an initiative to focus on local builders in 134 jurisdictions of Virginia. At least 3 in-person training sessions will be provided to 120 building professionals. A video training module will be produced and available on 15 CIL websites. Project Title: Employment for All Citizens of The Arc of Southside Grantee: VCU Rehabilitation Research & Training Center (RRTC) Web Address: www.research.vcu.edu/osp/ Project Coordinator: Pam Hinterlong Grant Period: 10/1/2013 – 9/30/2015 Grant Award: $243,975 Match: $27,108 Project Goal: To convert the Hatcher Employment Program (a sheltered workshop) administered by The Arc of Southside to a community, integrated employment program focused on competitive employment outcomes. RRTC will develop and maintain a skilled Arc of Southside staff and assist 30 people with disabilities with transition. Project Title: Empowerment to Prevent Institutionalization Grantee: Virginia Association of Centers for Independent Living (VACIL) Web Address: www.vacil.org Project Coordinator: Kim Lett Grant Period: 10/1/2013 – 9/30/2015 Grant Award: $124,688 Page 1 of 3 CURRENT GRANT PROJECTS Match: $45,597 Project Goal: To prevent the institutionalization of people with developmental and other disabilities who experience medical interventions, behavioral stresses or changes in family dynamics that can result in risk of placement of an institutional setting by CIL teams training providers statewide. Training materials will be developed specific to each region; training teams will include a CIL representative, a person with a disability or family member and a Medicaid Waiver mentor. VACIL will conduct outreach to healthcare professionals to conduct 3 workshops in each of 10 regions, training 450. Providers will provide follow-up documentation after training. Project Title: Improving Oral health for Individuals with Development Disabilities Grantee: Virginia Oral Health Coalition (VaOHC) Web Address: www.vaoralhealth.org Project Coordinator: Katherine Libby Grant Period: 10/1/2013 – 3/31/2015 Grant Award: $89,143 Match: $41,161 Project Goal: To build statewide capacity and commitment for the provision of dental health services to individuals with developmental disabilities. VaOHC will conduct three 2-day Regional Dental Provider Trainings, with continuing education credits, in Chesapeake, Lynchburg and Richmond. VaOHC will also work with the VCU School of Dentistry on a dental externship at Northern Virginia Training Center. Project Title: Leadership for Empowerment and Abuse Prevention Grantee: VCU Partnership for People with Disabilities Web Address: www.partnership.vcu.edu Project Coordinator: Molly Dellinger-Wray Grant Period: 10/1/2013 – 9/30/2015 Grant Award: $178,125 Match: $59,375 Project Goal: To teach people with developmental and other disabilities about healthy relationships and how to better protect themselves from assault, abuse, neglect and violence. PPD will develop curriculum to be piloted at a state training center and ultimately will train 250 PWD in central Virginia. Training will be delivered by training teams, using a train-the-trainer Page 2 of 3 CURRENT GRANT PROJECTS format; the 2-member training teams will include a PWD. 15-20 training sessions will take place, each training small groups of 10-15 people with disabilities. Project Title: Opportunities Abound: Early Planning for Your Future Grantee: Valley Associates for Independent Living (VAIL) Web Address: www.govail.org Project Coordinator: Andrea King Grant Period: 10/1/12–9/30/15 Grant Award: $40,000 Match: $23,000 Project Goal: VAIL will partner with Resources for Independent Living in Richmond will work with school divisions in their respective regions to begin career exploration and transition planning for students with disabilities as early as elementary and middle schools to design Individualized Education Plan goals with the ultimate result of self-sufficiency, higher education and employment. Training and evaluation will be provided to school personnel, parents and students. The 30 student participants will be will be followed for a five year period. Project Title: Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program Grantee: Dept. for Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) Web Address: www.dbhds.virginia.gov Project Coordinator: Dawn Traver Grant Period: 10/1/2013 – 12/31/2014 Grant Award: $52,066 Match: $17,335 Project Goal: To develop a peer-to-peer mentoring program which will facilitate the discharge of individuals with intellectual or other developmental disability (ID/DD) from state training centers into community life or those recently discharged from those facilities. Fifteen individuals with disabilities will be trained as Peer Mentors and will work with 30 individuals with disabilities participating in the program. Page 3 of 3
