ORIENTATION LEADER APPLICATION
Thank you for your interest in the 2011-2012 NTRSO Program Orientation Leader position.
New Student Orientation will be from August 15- August 20, 2011 for the Fall semester. Spring
2012 dates have yet to be announced. The expectation is that all orientation leaders will be
available during these dates as well as the training that occurs days prior to orientation week.
Approximately 500-600 students and their families are expected to participate in the Fall 2012
NTRSO program. Our orientation program has a significant impact on our new students’
experience at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo. An Orientation Leader is the reason for the
program’s success because you are the first to welcome and interact with our new students.
This is why the selection process is a vital aspect of the program.
Included in this packet are the job description and application for the Orientation Leader
position. Please read these carefully. All materials must be submitted to the New Student
Programs Office, CC 313, no later than 4:00 pm on Monday, April 4, 2011. Should you have

ORIENTATION LEADER JOB DESCRIPTION
An Orientation Leader has three main responsibilities during NTRSO. First, the
Orientation Leader is the front line representative of the University of Hawai`i at Hilo
orientation program. Each Orientation Leader will greet, interact and check-in students
and their families, as well as be responsible for a group of 15-25 new students. Second,
the Orientation Leader supports the logistics that make orientation a success. This
includes set-up and break down for various events throughout Orientation week.
Finally, the Orientation Leader serves as a guide for new students and parents, assisting
whenever possible and providing information to make the transition to UH Hilo a
successful one.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be a registered UH
Hilo student
•Completed at least one UH
Hilo semester by Fall 2010
• Have at least a 2.5 GPA
• Have clear judicial record
• Demonstrated involvement
in campus organizations
and/or has knowledge of
University policies,
procedures and programs
* Has excellent communication
