Lesson Study Reflection Etiquette: Thank the presenter! All lesson developers use “our” lesson. All observers who did not contribute to the development of the lesson refer to “your” (plural) lesson. Presenting teacher goes first. The facilitator publicly records responses to questions with “sign off” from team members to ensure the responses are accurately recorded. And, facilitator will follow up by sending a transcript of recorded responses to the team. Question 1: How did it go? Presenting teacher speaks first, explains how s/he feels the lesson went and identifies any difficulties in the lesson. Any difficulties identified by the teacher will not be reiterated by the others. Observers share how they think the lesson went and identify any difficulties they saw in the LESSON. Question 2: What guided our decisions in planning the lesson the way we did? Question 3: How did the lesson as it was carried out compare with what we planned? Look at lesson objectives, materials, structure, time, checking for understanding/assessment, student response, etc. Question 4: What data did we decide to collect and what do we see? Data should include student work (writing), comments/conversations, questions. Look at patterns, things that stand out, trends, things that we wonder about - NOT WHY – NO INFERRING HERE. Question 5: What might be some possible reasons for the things we’re seeing in the data? Question 6: In what ways did our lesson promote student learning and development? Question 7: Based on this lesson, what is our initial response to our research question? Question 8: What is especially powerful about this lesson? Question 9: Where might we want to make modifications?
