Post Doctoral Fellow, Exercise Science, Research Training Grant Recipient, National Institutes of Health
T32AR047752, University of California, Irvine. Experience included conducting various laboratory
techniques to assess immunological response to exercise in children i.e. immunoassays, flow cytometry, cell
culture techniques, exercise testing in laboratory and field settings. Presented research at professional meetings.
Research grant preparation, administration and management including IRB documents. July 2007-2010.
UC Irvine Continuing Medical Education (CME) Course titled: A Practitioner’s Guide to Children’s
Exercise in Health and Disease. Duties for this 3-day course was to serve as lead organizer and one of 12
faculty members. As lead organizer, prepared the application, administered the CME credit, prepared the test
evaluation, and coordinated the teaching assignments with other faculty. As a faculty member, provided the
following lecturers: Introduction to Exercise Testing in Children; Exercise Field Tests; Sports Injuries in
Children; and Laboratory Demonstration and Instruction in 1) Evaluation of Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction in Children, and 2) Maximal Exercise Testing with Gas Exchange Evaluation. Faculty member 2005 -2010.
Specialist in Exercise Physiology, University of California Irvine Medical Center, Department of
Pediatrics. Research specialist for multiple National Institutes of Health (NIH) projects and other research
activities conducted at the General Clinical Research Center/Institute of Clinical and Translational Science at
the UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, CA. Duties include study design and management, subject
recruitment, subject screening, cardiopulmonary testing, pulmonary function testing, preparation of NIH
progress reports, preparation of human subject protocol and consent documents, processing blood samples and
coordinating with immunology laboratory for analytical testing. 2005 - 2010.
Adjunct Lecturer, University of California, Irvine, Department of Environmental Health Science and
Policy and Public Health. Lead instructor the following courses: Environmental Health Science,
Environmental Science, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Lead Instructor for Laboratory portion of

Owner and CEO, Reliance Wellness Company. Administration and participation in delivery of health
education and health promotion services to hospitals, HMOs, senior centers, employers, cities and other public
agencies, and individuals for clients in CA, AZ, and UT. Oversight and management of Reliance's network of
80 health specialists, providing exercise training and fitness services, nutrition and dietetic counseling, stress
management services, health and fitness screenings, smoking cessation programs, and lectures on a wide variety
of health topics. 1994 - 2005.
Lab Assistant, California State University, Long Beach, CA. Served as Lab Assistant for Exercise Physiology
courses. Responsible for instruction of students in performing exercise tests including maximal oxygen uptake,
lactate threshold (blood and ventilation techniques), ECGs, body composition testing (BMI, body density by
submersion, skin-fold and testing), lung volume and tidal volume tests and other maximal exercise capacity
tests. 1995 - 1997.
Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Training, 24-Hour Fitness (various locations) and The Pacific Club,
Newport Beach. I taught low and high impact aerobics, step aerobics, 24-Hour Lift (strength training), yoga,
Body Pump, Interval Training and Senior Fitness classes. Served as Group Fitness Manager for three clubs in
Costa Mesa and Newport Beach. 1990 – 2008.
RESEARCH
Co-investigator: Impact of Exercise on Cancer and Chemotherapy-Related Fatigue during Cancer Treatment.
Funding from Nursing Oncology Society. Lead Investigator Sadeeka Al-Majid, PhD. 2011.
Circulating Cytokine and Growth Factors in Barth Syndrome Patients. Received plasma samples from the
Barth Syndrome Foundation bioregistry. Analyzed cytokines and, and ROS and growth factors in Barth
syndrome patients and healthy age-matched controls. Presented findings at the Barth Syndrome Foundation
annual meeting in July of 2010.
Evaluation of immunological markers, pulmonary function, and health status of elite adolescent swimmers.
Funded by USA Swimming Foundation. Duties included: wrote the grant proposal, administered the grant
through UCI Contracts Administration, prepared and managed the IRB documents, recruited and tested the
subjects, performed the laboratory analyses, and prepared the manuscripts and the Foundation progress reports.
2006-2008.
Reliability of Pepex Biomedical Lactate Patch. Funded by Pepex Biomedical Corporation. Analysis of sweat
and blood lactate concentrations during exercise. Duties: Secured funding, IRB preparation, laboratory testing
(hydrostatic weighing, analysis of lactate in blood and sweat, ventilation and expired gas fraction
measurements), data analysis, and final report. 2000-2001.
