Thank you for scheduling an appointment with Neva Healer Acupuncture! My goal as an acupuncturist is not to heal you, but to remind your body how to heal itself. Every human body is capable of returning to homeostasis. This is where it loves to be! The acupuncture points are a way to signal your body to reset, return to homeostasis and continue the healing process. Because of the stressors in modern day society, our bodies can be easily distracted from this goal. With regular acupuncture, light exercise and solid nutrition, our bodies can move right into this natural healing process. For your appointments, please wear comfortable clothing and try to have some food in your stomach. Acupuncture on an empty stomach can cause dizziness and light-headedness in some patients. I recommend drinking a lot of water for the rest of the day after the treatment to flush out any toxins that might have been released. As well, please refrain from any extreme temperatures (hot tubs, saunas, etc.), increased heart rate and sweating from exercise, and consumption of alcohol and/or recreational drugs. The treatment will be working with your body for the next 24-48 hours so it is helpful to let your body re-integrate with as little distraction as possible. The initial appointment will be 2-2 ½ hours in length. There will be an in-depth interview covering your entire life and health history. This helps me to better treat you constitutionally and to treat the root of the disease, rather than just the symptoms. After the interview, there will be a physical exam and an acupuncture treatment. The first treatment can sometimes be draining physically for some patients so be sure to have a light day scheduled post treatment. It is important to see new patients once/week for four weeks and then we reevaluate at the end of the month to see where you are. Some patients are healed and on their way, some patients can back off to every other week, and some continue to come every week for another month. Really, every case is different because every human body is different. I am very open to communicating and catering to each patient’s specific needs. The final goal for everyone is about 4-visits/year coinciding with the change of seasons for a tuneup. I do use herbs and supplements for patients if they want them. Chinese and Western herbs are very powerful and effective substances. If you would like herbs, please do not hesitate to ask. I am also supportive of those patients that do not want to take herbs. Inform me of your preference and I am happy to work with this. I have two Santa Cruz locations, an office at Thrive Natural Medicine (2840 Park Avenue, Soquel, CA) and one at 620 Mystery Spot Road. My initial evaluation and treatment is a 120-minute session for $135. The follow-up visits are 60-75 minutes in length and $85. I do accept insurance if acupuncture is covered in your policy (most policies have an acupuncture benefit these days, check with your carrier for more info). If money is an issue for you, please let me know and we can work around it. I want everyone to be able to receive healthcare regardless of his or her income status. I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Please call, text, or email to let me know if you cannot make your appointment. With 24-hour notice, I can usually fit another patient in your spot. If the 24-hour cancellation policy is not adhered to, you will be charged for the appointment. Thank you for respecting this policy. Please feel free to contact me via email, phone or text if you have any questions about your treatment or herbs. Neva Healer, M.S. L.Ac. nevahealer@gmail.com 831.345.8902 (cell)
