6th Grade Noun Test Study Guide We are now almost finished our unit on nouns. The test will be on Wednesday, October 15. This will be a test on the entire chapter. To help you study, the concepts presented in each section are here along with page numbers and workbook pages to help you review. You should know all these concepts. Sections 1.1 and 1.2 “Singular and Plural Nouns.” (pp. 2-5 in text, pp.5-6 in workbook) Know rules for how to make nouns plural and common exceptions to these rules. Be prepared to look at singular nouns and make them plural and identify misspelled plural nouns. Section 1.3 “Concrete and Abstract Nouns.” (pp. 6-7 in text, p. 7 in workbook) Know definitions for concrete and abstract nouns. Be able to determine which a given noun is. Section 1.4 “Subjects and Subject Compliments.” (pp. 8-9 in text, pp. 8-9 in workbook) Know the rules for determining subjects and subject compliments. Be able to determine whether a part of a sentence is a subject or a subject compliment. Sections 1.5 and 1.6 “Nouns as Objects.” (pp. 10-13 in text, pp. 10-12 in workbook) Know how to find direct objects, indirect objects, and objects of prepositions. Be able to identify each in sentences. Remember what questions to ask yourself to help you find them! Sections 1.7 and 1.8 “Possessive Nouns.” (pp. 14-17 in text, pp. 13-16 in workbook). Know rules for possession for different kinds of words (for example, words ending in –s, plural possessives, etc.) Be able to identify possessives, make words possessive, and determine which nouns show joint possession and which show separate possession. Section 1.9 (Appositives.” (pp. 18-19 in text, p. 17 in workbook) Know what appositives do, know the two different kinds of appositives and how to determine which type a given appositive is. Section 1.10 “Words Used as Nouns and Verbs.” (pp. 20-21 in text, p. 18 in workbook). Know how to determine if a given word is used as a noun or a verb Section 1.11 “Words Used as Nouns and Adjectives.” (pp. 22-23 in text, p. 19 in workbook). Know how to determine if a given word is used as a noun or an adjective
