● Organizational Updates Richard Thoune, Health Officer, has been working with Allegiance
Health and the Jackson Health Network to complete the State
Innovation Model Accountable Systems of Care Capacity
Assessment, due to the Michigan Department of Community Health
on April 13th. A second capacity assessment for the Community
Health Innovation Region that is part of the State Innovation Model
will be released later this month for completion. Work on
developing the Community Immunization Coalition continues with a
May 13th meeting date of key partners to develop the structural
components and operational purpose of the coalition. Health
literacy has received a lot of community interest lately. Nine out of
10 citizens have low health literacy, and this creates significant
problems for health care providers and their patients in terms of
accessing health care, managing medications, and preventive health
services. A group of 4-5 Health Department and Allegiance Health
members will attend a health literacy seminar on April 19 th in
Lansing.
Judy Jove, Family Service & Children’s Aid, announced that the
agency was beginning a 42 month long grant from the Children’s
Trust Fund to provide parent education with emphasis on trauma
informed curriculum. The grant involves two weekly parent
education classes, work with parents at Lincoln Head Start and
various workshops on parenting traumatized children for target
groups in the community. Judy also invited all to participate in the
agency’s annual 5K Run for Fun scheduled on May 2 at Cascades
Park. Judy also mentioned that Family Service, along with CAA, DHS,
Lifeways and Jackson ISD are working together on developing
trauma informed systems of care through a small planning grant
from the State.
