Branding
Graphic design is a fast changing profession – not so long
ago the designer would be asked to design a sign and
letterhead for a local shop or livery for a local haulage
company, and that’s where the job would end. Small local
jobs still exist, of course, but even local companies now
want web presence with moving images and sound. The
local butcher now wants to produce its own recipe book –
both in print and on line; it wants uniforms for its shop staff
and a shop interior with waterfalls and flower gardens.

With today’s increasing international trade and
globalisation, the graphic designer is required to be aware
of different languages, cultures and traditions. International
companies are keen to have their brand identities appeal
to those different cultures making the graphic designer’s
job ever more difficult. Graphic designers must also be
able to work across all the different media when designing
for an international company from exhibition design to web
site design, from design for print to packaging.
This short course will give you an insight into the ways a
logo, product title, book title or film title can be dealt with in
terms of graphic design and visual personality.

creative vision into new territories.

enthusiastic about art and want to share their knowledge

Print for Illustration
The aim of this ten week course is to give a short
introduction into illustration and printmaking. You will be
working from a novel, children’s book or poetry. The ideas
for your Illustrations will be developed in stages, initially as
quick sketches (thumbnails) and gradually developed into
the final illustrations looking at things like appropriateness,
drama, movement and atmosphere. The best
ideas/designs will then are developed to the final drawing
stage adding detail, colour etc.
The final series of illustrations will then be taken and
developed into various print processes such as lino,
etching and silkscreen.
