PURPOSE OF ROLE: To work on existing projects on palliative and end of life care among BME groups, pain management and the health status of Gypsies Roma and Travellers. The successful appointee will also help to develop new research in the Faculty of Education and Health, including designing and conducting research and writing proposals and peer reviewed journal articles and associated administrative duties as required. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Team Specific: Responsibility for designing and carrying out research effectively in order to successfully achieve the research aims Monitor the research and ensure that outputs are completed to deadline Work effectively individually and within a research team environment Prepare and publish results of the research in peer reviewed journals and research reports Prepare and present results at academic and non-academic conferences to disseminate findings to researchers and practitioners in the field Liaise with external and internal contacts to develop collaborations for research proposals and projects Assist in the preparation of research proposals for external funding Generic: To take part in Department and Faculty activities such as representing the ‘Ageing Daily Life and the Life Course’ research cluster at the Centre for Positive Ageing meetings and organising cluster meetings. Significant experience in qualitative research methods, either independently or within a research team. Experience in assisting writing bids for external funding Understanding of research budgets. Skills Academic background in social sciences (sociology/anthropology) applied to health. Analysis/coding of qualitative data using relevant software. Ability to communicate effectively within a research team in order to keep all parties up to date with project developments. Ability to communicate research findings to academics and non-academics. Ability to liaise with external parties to develop research collaborations. Ability to work under pressure, to tight research deadlines. Proficiency in and experience of dealing with administrative tasks and processes. Qualifications Masters level qualification in Sociology, Anthropology or cognate discipline.
