Connect Group Homework For the Week of May 17, 2015 Climate Control Getting Started 1. Welcome back to our first week of study. We have kicked off a new series, Agents of Change, and we are excited about where it will take our church. What was your favorite part of Sunday’s sermon? What impacted you the most? 2. We learned on Sunday that our actions and our life-style should be temperature setting. What do you believe it means to live a life that sets the temperature of your surroundings? 3. The presence of God was represented by fire often times in scripture. Being ‘lit’ by the presence of God would allow someone to greatly impact his or her environment. How does a Christian go about being consumed with the fire (presence) of God? How would you explain this to someone wanting more of God’s presence in his or her life? 5. In Romans 12 Paul urged the church to not follow the behavior and customs of the world. Paul was referring to a lifestyle that was contrary to the life that Jesus taught us to live. Why do you believe Paul felt it necessary to caution the church that following the behavior of the world was not a good idea? 6. Paul went on to explain that the church should be transformed by changing the way that they think. This is a great place to start making a change! Why does changing our thoughts lead to tangible actions of change? 7. How would you describe the process a Christian must go through to change the way that they think? If you had to give someone advice on doing this, what would you tell them? 8. In Romans 1 we read that Paul declared that he was unashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ! Through a study of church history we know that this meant Paul faced heavy persecution and imprisonment. What do you think compelled Paul to have this “all in” attitude? Into the Word 4. Please read the following passages in preparation for your time with your group. 9. As Agents of Change, how important is it for us to have this same attitude and how do we develop this attitude? a. Romans 12:1-2. Write down any insights, questions, or key observations. Digging Deeper 10. We are off to a great start in our series, but today’s challenge is to ask ourselves if we share the “all in” attitude that Paul had. Are we 100% unashamed of our faith? Do we share our faith often? Are we setting the temperature of our environment? If you know you can do a better job in this area, let this prayer be one of commitment to making a change for the better. b. Romans 1:16-17. Write down any insights, questions, or key observations. Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Made for More 2015 Agents of Change Part 1 www.gotolighthouse.org
