3
Recruitment to our PPG
Warm welcome to Sue Saunders.
4
Surgery web site.
Overall happy with the website .
It was suggested that under “Find local services in your area” and “Hospitals”
the newly opened Brants Bridge Care Centre at Bracknell should be listed.

Tom asked that the heading on the Home Page, which currently reads “ Have
Your Say” should –for greater clarity- be changed to “Patient Participation
Group” and that should lead to “Minutes”, “Patient Group” and “Contact us” (all
as now) and “Survey Report”. He noted that currently under “Survey Report” CCR
there is shown the January 2013 Questionnaire report. This should now be
substituted by the Executive Summary Report of the June 2014 Health Survey.
New Check in at the surgery.
The group was a little disappointed that they were not consulted before the
system was installed, though the surgery staff felt that patients had adapted
well. Members were aware of patients’ concerns in two areas (i) a dislike of
having ones name broadcast to everyone in the waiting room; (ii) the inability
to see ones position in the queue for a particular doctor (compared with the
previous system). The practice was asked to consider what improvements
might be possible in these areas.

PPG’s Secretary.
Carole had put forward that the surgery should not be responsible for the
typing of the minutes and that the group should take the responsibility, after
discussion it was decided that the surgery would carry on with the job, and that
this should be part of the remit of the new Practice Manager.

Patient Panel Update
Tony Lloyd reported that again the numbers have increased, now 1046 (854
by email and 192 by post). Wargrave are maintaining their record of having the
most members on a Patient Reference Group in the Wokingham area, and
probably (as a % of the patient list) the most of any practice nationwide.
8
Wokingham PPG forum health survey-responses
The June 2014 Health Survey (in which Wargrave PPG had participated with
other Wokingham area PPGs) had elicited responses from the relevant
providers who had received the report and its recommendations. Tony Lloyd
presented a summary of these responses, which were largely positive except
for the Royal Berks Hospital (RBH). The outstanding issues with RBH would
be pursued at a meeting to be confirmed in December.

Wargrave Surgery next local PPG survey
It was agreed that various delays meant that we would be too close to
Christmas to issue our next survey in 2014, but we should now aim for early
January with returns by mid February 2015.
Various minor amendments to the “Draft 3” of the questionnaire were agreed.
One significant change was to substitute Q2. “Contact with Surgery Reception”
by a question concerning patients’ response to the new touch screen check-in
system.
A revised draft will be circulated shortly.

RBH
Jeremy commented that RBH has serious long-term financial troubles. The
Hospital missed its A&E target, though by a very small margin.
There was a discussion of
the problems of patients ready to be discharged but being left in limbo
waiting for prescriptions. The RBH now has a discharge lounge and
patients are encouraged to use this rather then hold up the beds.

Wokingham CCG developments
Under “co-commissioning” our CCG is to be more involved in primary care..
There had been a proposal to cut costs by integrating our four federated CCGs
but South Reading had not agreed, so this has been shelved for now. o
12
Friend & Family test Dec 2014.
Friends and family test to go live at Wargrave Surgery from the first of
December as part of a contractual requirement. Cards will be given out
asking a generic question:
“How likely are you to recommend our practice to friends and family if
they need similar care?”
There will be information about this on the website and in the Wargrave
News
A.O.B
Carole informed the panel that she will be leaving the surgery and this
would be her last meeting. The members all thanked her very much for
her contribution to the practice and to the PPG, and wished her well in her
new job.
Date of next meeting: Wednesday 11th March 2015 7.30pm
