Overview of Course
This course provide the students with a clear and thorough presentation of theory and
application of structural analysis as it applies to trusses, beams and frames emphasis is
placed on developing the students ability to analyze a structure and to provide realistic
applications encountered in the professional practice.
( b) Couse Objective/ Goals
This course provides Civil Engineering students an understanding of structural Analysis. Also
this knowledge develops a deeper understanding of basic engineering science of statics and
mechanics of materials.
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:







Understand the classical methods which provide a means of checking a computer results
rather than simply relying on the generated output. .
Model and analyze structures and to provide realistic applications
Analyze structures by matrix analysis
Understand computer applications in structural analysis.
Design and analyze structures by use of computer programs.
Understand ultimate load analysis.
Analyze the sway effects and modified stiffness methods for multi-bay and multi-storey
structures.

( c) Methods of Lecture Delivery/Teaching Aids
Lecture periods will present class discussions. Uploading of lecture notes into the modules
before the class. Student will be giving reading assignments on every next topic to allow for
more discussions during lecture time. Assignment will also be given to reinforce the
knowledge acquired during lectures.
Lecture slides will be projected in the class and relevant videos will be projected in the class
to reinforce the understanding of the students.

All Covenant University regulations must be strictly adhered to during lectures.
Attending lectures is very important. Laptops and iPods should not be used during lecture
periods.
Late submission of homework/assignment will not be accepted.
Student should be honest and exhibit high-integrity. Anything otherwise, will attract an
undesirable consequence
