Almighty and everlasting God, by whose
Spirit the whole body of the Church is
governed and sanctified: hear our prayer
which we offer for all your faithful
people, that in their vocation and
ministry they may serve you in holiness
and truth to the glory of your name;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ, who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,
now and for ever.
Amen.
Post Communion Prayer
Grant O Lord, we beseech you, that the
course of this world may be so
peaceably ordered by your governance,
that your Church may joyfully serve you
in all godly quietness; through Jesus
Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Gospel Reading
Mark 6: 1 - 13
Jesus left that place and came to his
home town, and his disciples followed
him. On the sabbath he began to teach
in the synagogue, and many who heard
him were astounded.
They said, ‘Where did this man get all
this? What is this wisdom that has been
given to him? What deeds of power are
being done by his hands! Is not this the
carpenter, the son of Mary and brother
of James and Joses and Judas and Simon,
and are not his sisters here with us?’
And they took offence at him. Then
Jesus said to them, ‘Prophets are not
without honour, except in their home
town, and among their own kin, and in
their own house.’
And he could do no deed of power
there, except that he laid his hands on a
few sick people and cured them. And he
was amazed at their unbelief.

on my own behalf I will not boast,

boast, I will not be a fool, for I will be
speaking the truth.
Croquet Evening
You are welcome to come along to an evening
of croquet on the front lawn of St Andrew’s
Hospital, just off the Billing Road, on Tuesday
14th July, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. The event is
open to all members of the church but please
note that St Andrew’s Hospital does not allow

be giving guidance on how to play the game.
Please note that it is essential that you wear
flat soled shoes, ideally trainers, and bring a
jumper if it is a cold evening! There will be 4
lawns in use and ideally the optimum number
of people for the event is 16 but we could
accommodate up to about 20. The cost is £5.00
per person which can be paid on the evening.
Malcolm Ward has kindly invited us to drinks
and nibbles at his house after the croquet. If
you would like to join us for this evening of

2 Corinthians 12: 2 - 10
I know a person in Christ who fourteen
years ago was caught up to the third
heaven—whether in the body or out of
the body I do not know; God knows. And
I know that such a person—whether in
the body or out of the body I do not
know; God knows— was caught up into
Paradise and heard things that are not
to be told, that no mortal is permitted to
repeat.
But I refrain from it, so that no one may
think better of me than what is seen in
me or heard from me, even considering
the exceptional character of the
revelations. Therefore, to keep me from
being too elated, a thorn was given to
me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to
torment me, to keep me from being too
elated.
Three times I appealed to the Lord about
this, that it would leave me, but he said
to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for
power is made perfect in weakness.’ So,
I will boast all the more gladly of my
weaknesses, so that the power of Christ
may dwell in me.
Therefore I am content with
weaknesses, insults, hardships,
persecutions, and calamities for the sake
of Christ; for whenever I am weak, then I
am strong.

First Reading
Ezekiel 2: 1 - 5
He said to me: O mortal, stand up on
your feet, and I will speak with you. And
when he spoke to me, a spirit entered
into me and set me on my feet; and I
heard him speaking to me.
He said to me, Mortal, I am sending you
to the people of Israel, to a nation of
rebels who have rebelled against me;
they and their ancestors have
transgressed against me to this very day.
The descendants are impudent and
stubborn. I am sending you to them, and
you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the
Lord God.’ Whether they hear or refuse
to hear (for they are a rebellious house),
they shall know that there has been a
prophet among them.
croquet then please put your name and

to Hunstanton on Wednesday 19th August. The

and leave Hunstanton at 6.00pm. The cost is
£12 per adult and £5 per child (under 18).

please speak to Anne Quinn, Sue Ball or

Holiday Club
There will be NO holiday club this summer. As

to all children and their families to come
together, to enjoy fun activities and a meal.

General Notices
Church Coffee Mornings
Following the success of the coffee morning
two weeks ago and people suggesting it would
be a good idea to have one regularly, I have
decided to run three more whilst the Church is
still open for summer visitors. £60 was raised
for Church funds, but it wasn't only about the
money, those who came said it was a good
opportunity to chat and have some good
fellowship and would be good to continue. Like
the last time, I will bake fresh scones and
provide biscuits etc. The Fridays during the
school holidays would also be good to see
families and weather permitting give them an
opportunity to play together in the Churchyard.
The Fridays I am booking is 17th July, 14th
August and 4th September. Please put the
dates in you diary now. Jeanette.
Footsteps in Faith
The next course will begin in mid September
when we will be studying John’s Epistles.
Further details will be in the August Bulletins.
St Peters Church, Marefair, Northampton
The friends of St Peters Church are looking to
assist The Churches Conservation Trust in
opening the 12th century church more
frequently during the coming months. They are
looking to recruit volunteers to meet and greet
visitors during this time, and particularly at the
Heritage Weekend in September. Full training
will be provided to ensure that all volunteers
are confident in talking about the church,
which is a remarkable example of Norman
architecture. If you would be interested in
becoming a volunteer, please email Gerald
Porter at Gerald_porter@talktalk.net.

Street Pastors Report from
Friday 26th June
It was a warm evening and not at all busy .We
met one group of very friendly and happy
young people at the top of Abington Street. But
as sometimes happens, one was very upset as
she had witnessed a big argument between her
parents. Clearly seeking to let Christ into her
life; but opportunity to talk is limited when the
group wants to move on. So we & the prayer
team prayed for her. We pray that she finds a
church where she can explore her faith and that
her family situation resolves itself.
We also met a group near the Cordwainer who
were keen to sing "Happy Birthday" to one of
their friends and have photos and hugs! Lots of
thanks for what we do.
The second half was much busier for us - whilst
we were in Angel Street we were called to one
club where a young lady was drunk and being
aggressive to her friends. The door staff had
tried to help out –they provided water, which
was great - but had asked for us to help out!
She had been sick, so we helped clean her up,
but mostly supported her friends to support her.
She lashed out again when they tried to get her
to walk to a taxi. But got there in the end, and
it’s good that friends will stick together when
needed.
We had a couple of other interventions with
people who were sick, but the theme of the
evening seemed to be that everyone had a
friend or friends with them. We also came
across a young lady who claimed to have
had all the contents of her bag, including
phone, ID and (sometimes) her bank card
stolen. Unfortunately she was quite drunk so
the story wasn't consistent and her friend was
focused on trying to get them home.
Lots of flip flops in the second half, to the extent
that we had to go back & restock, though, as
often then happens, the demand slacked off!
A late finish, after 4 am, and very odd to go out
into the daylight! But a great night and a very
fulfilling one. Thank you all for your support!
