FUNDRAISING ASSISTANT
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Tiny Lives Trust helps to care for over 700 premature and sick new-born babies and
their families each year. The fund supports the Newcastle Neonatal Service at
Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary, which cares for babies from across the North East
and Cumbria. A staff of 120 nurses and 30 doctors look after 34 babies at any one time
and Tiny Lives aims to support the neonatal service in providing the highest quality of
care by funding a range of facilities, staff posts, training, research and equipment.
The Tiny Lives Trust has recently been created as a company limited by guarantee with
charitable status and from April 2013 launched as an independent charity. Tiny Lives are
seeking to appoint a suitably experienced and qualified person to support the charities
Fundraising function in providing excellent donor care and innovative fundraising
solutions.
The role as Fundraising Assistant will be as part of a small team of two fundraisers
based within the office of the Community Foundation, the full charity team comprising a
Head of Tiny Lives, full time administrator, a part time finance post and a part time
community fundraising post. The Fundraising Assistant will have overall responsibility for
the administration of fundraising events, registrations, distribution and collection of tubs,
liaison with parents, cheque collections, volunteer co-ordination and event administration
and support.
Tiny Lives would like to emphasise the varied and interesting workload associated with
this role within a fundraising and grant giving charity and require excellent customer
support at all times as well as an active involvement in fundraising activity and supporter
engagement.

Fundraising Assistant
Job Purpose
 To work under the Administrator to lead on the administration of fundraising
events, registration, distribution and collection of tubs, acknowledgement letters
etc.
 Liaison with parents and supporters providing excellent customer service
 Unit visits and cheque collections
 Volunteer co-ordination
 General event administration and support
 To support the Administrator in any other administrative duties.

Job Description
Governance, Strategy and Planning
Work with the Administrator to manage a planned series of events and administrative
support to donors.
Take part in annual planning events and feed into resource planning.
Provide monitoring information as and when required.
Leadership and Management
Contribute to a positive and energetic team and realise individual potential.
Provide a positive image of the charity and its work to external contacts.
Take an internal leadership role where appropriate.
Fundraising
Take a lead role in fundraising events organised by supporters, following a prescribed
method of engagement, support, collection etc.
Work with the Finance Administrator on cash collection, counting and banking with
appropriate safety and security measures.
Support the Administrator on fundraising administration as and when required.
External Relationships
Act as an effective ambassador for the Tiny Lives Trust, increase awareness of its
work and the value it brings to the SCBU at the RVI
Build positive relationships with parents, carers and staff at the Special Care Baby
Unit (SCBU) at the RVI.
Grant-making
Take an active interest in the grant-making activities of the charity in order to
understand the value of fundraising activities
Financial Management
Be responsible for safely handling and counting cash collections
Be responsible for safely reporting and banking cash alongside the Finance
Administrator
Support the Administrator to ensure the smooth and seamless support for donors.
Support the Administrator and Head of Tiny Lives in providing information for reporting
i.e. accessing and summarizing JustGiving information.

Key terms and conditions
1 Salary
£17,500 per annum pro rata (circa £9,459 pro rata)
2 Period of employment
This is a permanent contract starting in July 2013, subject to satisfactory completion of
the probationary period.
3 Pension
The Tiny Lives Trust will contribute up to 6% of your annual salary to the company
stakeholder pension, providing you make matching contributions of at least 5%.
4 Hours
20 hours per week. Patterns of working may be negotiated but expected to be
10am-2pm 5 days per week.
5 Leave
21 days per year pro rata plus public holidays pro-rata for the period of employment.
6 Probation
The post is subject to a six month probationary period.
7 Offices
The Tiny Lives Trust will be based within the Community Foundation’s offices in central
Newcastle which are accessible for disabled people. The offices are non smoking.
8 Travel
The Tiny Lives Trust will pay business travel expenses and post holders would require
business travel insurance if they use their own vehicle on company business.
