1st GRADE NEWS: Wow! We can’t believe the first six weeks is coming to an end
already. The students have been busy learning about place value, measurement, story
elements, reviewing short vowel sounds, and identifying science tools.
Thank you for supporting your child at home with his/her homework and getting
him/her to school on time each day. Please continue to review and sign your child’s
citizenship card daily. This is our way to keep an open line of communication with you.

Second Grade is going to have a science SPOOK-tacular activity for our scholars and families
Wednesday, October 7th at 6pm. Mark your calendars! We will be creating our own pumpkins using
recycled resources. Parents please do not discard empty egg cartons; instead send them with your
children to school. Hope to see you there, come join the fun!
3rd Grade Wildcats:
Reading: We are using graphic organizers, such as a story map to help students visually organize a story’s elements, increasing their
ability to retell, summarize, and comprehend a story.
Math: We are currently reviewing one-step and two-step problems involving addition and subtraction within 1,000 using strategies
based on place value and properties of operations.
Science: We are learning to predict, observe, and record changes in states of matter.
Social Studies: We are learning to identify the responsibilities of local, state, and national government.
Fabulous 4th Grade Wildcats!
E
It’s been a great six weeks Wildcats! The 4th grade students will be reading and analyzing
informational texts. They will also be making connections between different genres. In writing,
students will be composing expository essays using the writing process. In math, the students will be
learning about decimals, fractions and how to interpret the value of each place-value position. We are
also preparing a great activity for Science Family Night!
Grade Parents:
Well, one six weeks down and five more to go! For the 2 nd Six Weeks we will be working on fractions,
division, and personal financial literacy in mathematics. In Science, scholars will be exploring the uses of
energy, circuits and electricity, light, force, and the formation of fossil fuels. For ELAR, scholars will read
from a variety of texts and adeptly adjust their rate of reading while practicing an array of comprehension
skills. Scholars will also determine an author’s point of view and judge how his perspective and the internal
consistency of the text influence the reader’s understanding. Last but not least, in social studies, scholars
will learn about life in the colonies and causes that lead to the American Revolution. We want our scholars
to go home and teach to their parent(s) what they learned today! We appreciate your help! As always,
check your child’s homework and look through their portfolio for important information and graded work

We have had a terrific start to the year! Thank you,
parents/guardians for supporting out T.G. Allen
scholars.
As the counselor, I will be doing guidance lessons
throughout the year. For the second six weeks, I
will be focusing on getting to know the counselor,
breaking the ice activities, and also sharing ways
students can notify me that they need to visit with
me.
For the months of August and September, students
focused on the district’s Character First Quality –
Responsibility.
For the month of October, scholars will be focusing
on the district’s Character First Quality – Punctuality.

NOTES FROM NURSE Rodriguez:
Fall is here!
This means so are runny noses and bad coughs. A runny nose
is the way many children respond to dust, pollen, or simply a
change in the season. If it isn’t a common cold, then it may
be allergies. Allergies are not contagious. DO NOT KEEP
YOUR CHILD AT HOME. Remind your child to use tissue to
wipe their nose, discard tissue, and immediately wash their
hands.
A bad cough or cold symptoms can indicate a severe cold,
bronchitis, flu, or even pneumonia. Some children suffer one
cold after another. Again, this not a reason to keep a child
at home. If your child is having difficulty breathing, or is
dehydrated it could be serious. Check with your physician
right away.
Please make sure we have an updated phone number. As
well as an emergency contact number in case your child
needs medical attention.
