A Christmas Carol

Dickens himself, the imaginative and entertaining tale relates Ebenezer Scrooge's eerie
encounters with a series of spectral visitors. Journeying with them through
Christmases past, present, and future, he is ultimately transformed from an arrogant,
obstinate, and insensitive miser to a generous, warmhearted, and caring human being.
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
by Rachel Joyce
January 2015
Recently retired, sweet, emotionally numb Harold Fry is jolted out of his passivity by a
letter from Queenie Hennessy, an old friend, who he hasn't heard from in twenty years.
She has written to say she is in hospice and wanted to say goodbye. Leaving his tense,
bitter wife Maureen to her chores, Harold intends a quick walk to the corner mailbox to
post his reply but instead, inspired by a chance encounter, he becomes convinced he
must deliver his message in person to Queenie--who is 600 miles away--because as long
as he keeps walking, Harold believes that Queenie will not die. So without hiking boots,
rain gear, map or cell phone, one of the most endearing characters in current fiction
begins his unlikely pilgrimage across the English countryside.

An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth
by Chris Hadfield
April 2015
Chris Hadfield decided to become an astronaut after watching the Apollo moon
landing with his family on Stag Island, Ontario, when he was nine years old, and it was
impossible for Canadians to be astronauts. In 2013, he served as Commander of the
International Space Station orbiting the Earth during a five-month mission. Fulfilling
this lifelong dream required intense focus, natural ability and a singular commitment
to “thinking like an astronaut.” In An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth, Chris gives us
a rare insider’s perspective on just what that kind of thinking involves, and how
earthbound humans can use it to achieve success and happiness in their lives.
The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the
Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson
May 2015
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to
be his last stop. The only problem is that he’s still in good health. A big celebration is
in the works for his 100th birthday, but Allan really isn’t interested (and he’d like a bit
more control over his alcohol consumption), so he decides to escape. He climbs out
the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected
journey. It would be the adventure of a lifetime for anyone else, but Allan has a largerthan-life backstory: he has not only witnessed some of the most important events of the 20th century, but
actually played a key role in them. Quirky and utterly unique, The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the
Window and Disappeared has charmed readers across the world.
