“RESIDENTS AS TEACHERS” PROGRAM
2014 - 2015 COURSE SYLLABUS
Purpose of the Program
The “Resident as Teachers” (RAT) Program will provide residents & fellow exposure to
medical teaching concepts and provide them with an opportunity to improve their teaching
skills through didactic presentations, review of taped case scenarios, role-play, and other
activities.
This program has been divided into two sections. The first section will consist of the
Stanford Faculty Development Clinical Teachers curriculum. This curriculum will be taught
by the seven Beaumont physicians who attended a month-long training program to become
facilitators for small-group sessions (6-8 residents). These seven bimonthly sessions will
include videos vignettes and role-plays. The sessions will be offered either 7-9 am or 57pm to accommodate residents’ schedules. (5:30 - 7:30 pm will also be offered, if
requested.) The second portion of the program will consist of interactive plenary sessions
on the third Wednesday of every month. The plenary sessions will be facilitated by invited
guest speakers who will address specific topics in medical education.
